This will be the first book that we will be reading. Right now we're looking at beginning the discussion thread sometime next week. Although if it would encourage more participation, perhaps we can wait until June 29th. So far the following people are set to participate:

1. dkfan9
2. thodoks
3. 04/05
4. Buffalohed
5. Pegasus (tentative)
6. homersheineken
7. given2trade
8. Chud
9. Bart

Please feel free to invite others who may not have opened this thread. The more people we get the better this could be.

I agree that is a better book than Chalmers. Both say the same premise, but Kinzer's doesn't suffer from reputation of bias from their other work as Chalmer's. But Blowback is good and more famous, I believe.

Also check out this by Kinzer on Iran http://www.amazon.com/All-Shahs-Men-American-Middle/dp/047018549X/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1244770784&sr=8-2 .... I think you referred to some of this in a rebuttal of LW in the Econ thread, Thodoks.

BTW - I met and interviewed kinzer and he's a smart dude. Funny as hell too and was considerate when we had tech problems with the interview ;) He's well-travelled and had some fantastic anecdotes (and yes my opinion of the books is based on before meeting him 8) )

yeah the ron paul recommendation was where i first heard about it, and it's a catchy phrase so it stuck in my head

anyway, I think I might actually go for All the Shah's Men. I like the idea of focusing on one specific incident; I read the first six pages on Amazon and it's an easy/intriguing read so far

Nice. I've had that idea for awhile. It could be pretty cool. Read stuff on a wide range of topics and stuff. I'm down.

Did you end up going with All the Shah's Men? That could possibly be the first one to get the ball rolling since a few people would be starting it at about the same time and Homer has already read it.

hey pat, it might not be a bad idea to edit the thread title if you want this to become the official RM book club thread.
