Ok.... 14 or 15?

I'd say 15 with age difference stipulations.

The reason why the number 13 really jumped at me despite you saying "something like" is that there is a HUGE difference in the mindset of a 13 year old and a 15 year old. It's not like saying "that guy looks 25" when he's really 23 and you say "hey, I was pretty much right on!".

Can you provide any support for this?

Have you ever talked to a 13 year old? Do you remember what it's like to be 13?

Statutory rape is such a bullshit law. Yeah, a 17 year old having consentual sex with a 15 year old is totally rape.

I agree with the second part of that statement, but not the first, if only because a 17 year old having "consensual sex" with an 9 year old is also statutory rape, and that's absolutely rape.

Basically, we need to reformulate our system of law to have an age of consent more reflective of reality. My suggestion would probably be something like 13. Note that this means I would advocate legalizing drinking, drugs, sex, leaving school, etc at this age.

I don't think it means that they should be allowed to drink as well.

You can join the military at 17 with parents consent and 18 without. So the drinking age needs to be at least that low.

why?

Honestly, this is where people rely too much on data based evidence when they really don't need to. Common sense tells us that a 13 year old and a 15 year old are vastly different in the way they see the world and make decisions. Talk to a 15 year old, and then talk to a 13 year old, you'll see it.

One of my best friends just got his Masters in psychology and he is very rarely willing to make broad claims like that. For one, I find it unlikely that Mecca ever heard something like that in an undergraduate classroom, and if he did, that means it is widely accepted and well-documented. Being a psychology student in college doesn't mean you can say things like "yeah 15 is ok but 13 isn't" anymore than I can, as a philosophy student, say "X is morally right and Y is morally wrong" without backing it up.

And there is also a "huge" difference between 15 and 17 year olds. And 11 and 13 year olds. Common sense also tells us that 13 and 15 year olds are very alike in many ways, and that the difference between the two almost always has to do with what age they started puberty.

I just feel like if you make the age of consent 13 years old then you leave the door open for a lot of scumbag 18/19 year olds to manipulate 13 year old girls who grew boobs early.

Same door is open for 15 year olds. And it already happens all the time in both cases anyway.

Well sure, but the door isn't open nearly as wide.

Developmental Psychology. Psychology of Personality.

Just to name a few. Lots of different theories out there, but they all pretty much say that the brain (physically/mentally) just isn't far enough along especially with puberty hitting you like a bag of rocks around that time throwing your hormones out of whack.

I mean, I don't really care that much. 14. 15. 13. Base it off research on brain development and hormones. Make it rational and make it consistent. Beyond that I don't care.

Sure. That much is clear. But what about at 15? In fact, I'm a lot less concerned with hormones than I am with actual brain function. At 13 people are taking advanced math courses and learning critical thinking in school. Their emotions are certainly up and down, but then again emotions are up and down for basically all adult humans too. If we use emotional maturity as a reference, most people would never be allowed to drink or have sex.
