WASHINGTON - The Senate voted Thursday to strip all proposed Medicaid cuts from the $2.6 trillion budget for next year, killing the heart of the plan's deficit reduction and dealing an embarrassing setback to President Bush and Republican leaders....The Medicaid cuts could still be revived when the House and Senate try writing a compromise budget next month....The budget sets overall tax and spending targets to guide Congress as it writes bills later in the year that make actual changes in programs and tax laws.

I'm not sure I understand what happened, but a "setback to President Bush and Republican leaders" is never bad!

So, if the U.S. was hit again today by a terrorist attack, that would be a good setback for the President and Republicans??

To the extent that it proves that their "war on terror" was an enormous amount of smoke up our collective asses? Yes, I think it serves the greater good.

I just disagree. I'd hate to see the U.S.A. taken over by a terrorist regine just to serve a greater good and prove the "enormmous amount of smoke".

It seems to me that there's so much hatred for the President and the Republican party that alot of people wouldn't care if terrorist attacked U.S. cities and killed millions of people. Just to make Bush look like an evil leader and say, "Ha! We told you so!".

I was really being facetious, but I hate to admit that now.

No, that would be a setback to the American people that would likely be used as a political boost for the President and the Republicans.

Even with the WTC having come down, I don't ever see a point where this country could ever be taken over, by anyone. We're erroding from within faster and more powerfully than any terrorist organization could possibly hope, all they have to do is sit around and wait for us to chew off our own legs.

"When they kick in your front door, how you gonna come? With your hands on your head, or the trigger of your gun?" (The Clash, Guns of Brixton). This nation has too many citizens who will stand up for themselves given any threat - we just simply need to stop the "....divide against each other and fight amongst ourselves. Too set in our ways to try to rearrange. Too right to be wrong...." (U2 "Like A Song") mentality that is so previlant and widespread in our nation.
