Let me see if I understand what I just read: This man is a "fugative" from the law because he played Chess in a country against whom the US had sanctions?

The US want's to arrest him because he played Chess?

.man. Have we "no" priorities? Christ almighty.

Am I missing something here?

I don't know what you're talking about. Our country's priorities are in perfect order.

That's how they all start.

Okay, so I'm not "high" then, they really want to bring this guy in for playing chess "against a sanctioned nation".

Ridiculous.

This really is strange. A game of chess is based around little figures that represent medieval units, kings, queens, bishops, knights etc. And one side wants to defeat the other. So wouldn't it make more sense to encourage chess games against the enemy so that you gain the moral high ground when your guy beats the other lot? Ha, my queen so totally kicked your knight's arse!

It's definitely not as simple as this article makes it seem. For example, Bobby Fischer is well known for spouting anti-semitic remarks and has recently shown verbal support for the 9/11 attacks. He's really one of the most ecentric and controversial people around, read up on him if you're interested. Also read up on the Yugoslavia sanctions, which were strongly supported by the UN.

so he should be getting shit because of his political views? Last I checked we were allowed to say whatever the hell we wanted and think whatever we wanted. Maybe I'm confused, but despite Bush being president we still live in America.

It's great to know that corporate fat cats can do business with the illegal regimes of the world but some dude can't play chess. Good work government

I didn't say this should happen because of his political views, I merely pointed out that this isn't as straightforward as it seems. He's been linked to the KGB and has been suspected of helping the Soviets spy on the US, as another example. There are lots of things well beyond what were mentioned in Yahoo's simplistic article, that's all I'm saying.
