LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Rev. Jerry Falwell was hospitalized in critical condition Tuesday, battling his second case of viral pneumonia in just five weeks, hospital and church officials said.
Falwell, 71, was admitted to Lynchburg General Hospital shortly before midnight Monday suffering from "respiratory arrest," the hospital said in a statement.
He was put on a ventilator and stabilized but remained in critical condition, the hospital said.
"He's resting comfortably and in stable condition," said Ron Godwin, Falwell's executive assistant. "It's a recurrence of the viral pneumonia."
Falwell, the founder of the Moral Majority and Liberty University, had left the hospital March 4 after 13 days, spending part of the time on a ventilator.
In a recent interview with The Associated Press, Falwell said he was feeling much better, but still recovering from his hospital stay.
Falwell had been in the pulpit Easter Sunday at Thomas Road Baptist Church and appeared in good health, said the Rev. Dave Randlett, a senior associate pastor.
"He always looks `up' so you wouldn't know if he wasn't" feeling well, Randlett said. "He was very optimistic."
An avid sports fan, Falwell had made the trip to Chattanooga, Tenn., on Saturday to see Liberty University's team play in the third round of the NCAA women's basketball tournament. The team lost. He also had been in the crowd March 22 when it won in the second round in College Park, Md.

before everyone cheers and says good for the fucker, you should know how bad this actually is. a lady i work with, her daughter caught this. she was a "little" sick and went to the hospital. her doctor sent her home with what was called a mild case of pneumonia. the next day when she was coughing up blood, she went back, again her doctor sent her home. the next day they had to call an ambulace, her pulse was near non existant and her vital organs shut down, she was life flighted to pittsburgh immediately from the hospital and theres a good chance shes going to die

If this was happening to an AIDS patient. Falwell would be giddy.
But Green Habit has convinced me to be the better man, but I'm not going to say anything nice about this fucker when he dies.

Lack of compassion? I think most people don't like the guy because he tells people that he speaks for God and that God says if you're gay you're going to burn in hell.

I really feel bad for him. I mean, why is Falwell sick? I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People For the American Way - all of them who have tried to secularize America - I point the finger in their face and say "you helped this happen."

I hope all of you saying nasty things realize you're no better than he is. He believes people are bad because of the way they live their life and what they think, and you people think he is bad because of the way he lives his life and what he thinks.

He revels in the suffering of others b/c they don't live they way he thinks they should live. I am admantly apathetic about his suffering b/c he's a hypocrite.

What makes you think he revels in the suffering of others?

This is all wrong. The question is "What makes you think he doesn't revel in the suffering of others?"
His remarks and behaivor would suggest that he does.

I'll agree with this. But it is naturally difficult to be that humble. But I'll agree that is the higher road.
