Daytona Beach Tries to Discourage Spring Break Influx by Christopher Elliott
All Things Considered, April 4, 2005 · Daytona Beach, once a destination for raucous, partying, spring-breaking college students, is looking to change its appeal to the college crowd. Tourism officials have been emphasizing a "respect campaign" with TV ads and volunteers urging students to behave.
Y'know when I heard this story I thought two things ...
1) OK, you do know you live in Daytona Beach, right? Why are you appaulled that college students are pouring into your town for Spring Break? Are people in Wisconsin trying to make laws to discourage snow? No, it comes with the territory.
2) Do you really want the Spring Break to stop? Isn't this a huge influx of money for the Daytona Beach community? Can Daytona Beach even exist w/o Spring Break?
