Mark Henderson, a spokesman for the airport, said no injuries were reported.
U.S. Airways flight 431 from Charlotte reported a fire in the left main gear of the 747 when it landed in Miami.
Airline spokesman Morgan Durrant said two of the plane's tires blew out after landing and that a small fire ignited on one of them. Video from Chopper 6 showed the flames were extinguished on the plane, which was surrounded by white foam.
About 100 people were onboard.
"They didn't look frightened," said freelance photographer Luis Alvarez, who was driving past the airport when the fire occurred. "They looked like they wanted to get off."
A small fire ignited in the rear wheel "and people were walking quickly to get away from it," Alvarez said.
Passengers on the plane were able to exit safely and were taken to the main terminal by bus.
Henderson said the incident was not affecting incoming or outgoing flights.
The plane was made in 1989, according to Federal Aviation Administration records.
