did everyone else know he was so close to death?

i had no idea. i was hoping he'd be back soon to take over Gibson's spot (although i do enjoy charlie, he seems nice, unlike the other network men)

He said that he had been diagnosed with lung cancer back in April:

I didn't think he'd succumb this quickly, though.

Thats interesting.

It is too bad. Those network guys were all cool. They can never be replaced.

I'll really miss him, I didn't think the cancer would take over as fast as it did. He smoked for most of his life up until about 20 years ago, and then he had quit for a long time. Then 9/11 happened and he needed cigarettes to help him through the day I guess, and he wasn't able to quit again. Really sad.

This is such a bummer. Especially with journalism in such a rapid decline. RIP Peter Jennings.
