Just one reason why they won't debate Nader...

Nader Urges Bush to Grant Clemency for Non-Violent Drug Offenders
Describes Drug War as Three Decade, Unjust Failure

Washington, DC: Independent Presidential candidate Ralph Nader today wrote President Bush urging that he grant clemency to 30,000 non-violent drug offenders. Nader’s letter highlighted the three decade long failed, and unjust, drug war. His call for clemency highlighted a similar request made by 400 clergy members to President Bill Clinton in 2000.

Nader’s letter recalled President Bush’s substance abuse problems and noted that if he had been incarcerated for cocaine use he “probably would not have gone on to have the career you have had.â€

Actually, I'm not a fan of metaphors that don't really apply. And that includes "If the basement is on fire, don't remodel the house."[/quote]

I have to admit, as a silented Nader fan (Mass resident) I'm a little dissapointed by this. And I'm DEFINITELY not going to buy the DVD. I mean, debating puppets? He's not doing well to shake off the insanity charges, that's for sure. I understand the symbolism and what he's trying to do, but it's still pretty dumb. There are much more clever ways to get the point across. I suppose I'd still vote for him if I could, but please Ralph, take it easy on the rediculous political stunts.

i don't know if i'll buy the DVD, and i wish he would just stream the thing for free on his site, but i think its pretty damn funny. Bush and Kerry are puppets of the same elite group, and i'm not saying its comic gold, but it's amusing, and it appropriately makes fun of the lack of real debate we have had in this country.

anyway, Nader's not on the ballot in Mass (WTF?) so we can either write him in or vote for Cobb (i'm going to do the latter).

I was thinking about voting for Cobb, but I don't know. I don't agree with him on a lot of issues, and it is TOTALLY a wasted vote. A vote for Nader at least might get him towards the 5%, but as you said, we've been shut up and shut down. I thought we were supposed to be "free?" Except we can't even vote for the candidate that most resembles our political leanings because of fucking corporate greed and corruption in the government.

I was thinking that I wouldn't vote, but I might go and write in Les Claypool or maybe Bill Belichick. At least get a little satisfaction out of this joke they call "freedom."

I'm not sure that 5% matters this year. Its possible that since Nader has been endorsed by the Reform Party and some other minor parties, that those parties might get Federal matching funds in 2008 if Nader gets 5%... but it might be that Nader actually has to be nominated by those parties. Since Nader isn't the Green nominee, I haven't bothered to find out the answer to this question.

Another question is: Can an individual running as an independent qualify for Federal matching funds? Not that I expect Nader to run again in 2008.

I am more interested that David Cobb get at least 3% in Massachusetts, because that will allow the Greens to keep automatic ballot access in this state. If he doesn't (and most likely won't), it's no big loss because I'm sure the Greens will be able to successfully petition for ballot access in 2006 and hopefully run a strong candidate against Ted Kennedy (if he runs again).

If not, I'll write-in Les Claypool. Or possibly Geddy Lee.
