I don't know how much effort the hot dog industry should put into a redesign, but if a product you made was killing kids, wouldn't your first response be "oh my god, i feel so bad that my product killed a kid," not, "why don't you fucking parents watch your kids more closely?"

The AAP also suggests more work be done to place warning labels on high risk foods in regard to choking. The National Hot Dog & Sausage Council’s Janet Riley disputes the report. She says many hot dog packages have had labels addressing the issue for about 10 years. Speaking to WGN-AM radio’s Greg Jarrett, Riley put the solution in the home, suggesting that parents take the time to supervise their children while they eat, according to the Chicago Tribune. But, the dog’s not the only food being barked at; the AAP also cites foods like hard candy, peanuts, whole grapes, popcorn, chunks of peanut butter and even toys and coins in its report.
"We have laws and regulations in this country that require warning labels to be placed on toys that pose choking hazards, and we have systems that monitor and recall consumer products that pose a risk," said Dr. Smith.
On average, a child will die every 5 days in the United States from choking on food, according to the news-medical.net.

Slide a finished hot dog through a machine that slices them length-wise > package them as "kid-friendly" hot dogs > charge 75% more per package > become millionaires
Or buy a bunch of these and stick them in the package with the hot dogs.

I hate to quote a celebrity, but kids are "miniature drunks" and "borderline retarded"...and a million different things can potentially kill them. It would be easier and quicker to list things that wouldn't kill kids.

I'm going to have to agree with this.
How lazy are we that we have to go and redesign hot dogs to compensate for poor parental supervision?
And don't we already have tiny hot dogs? The ones that go into making pigs in a blanket. Maybe those are even considered too big, but kids can choke on anything if they're young enough and aren't being supervised properly.

All decent points, but this isn't parents demanding the change. It's pediatricians who can't get parents to properly care for their kids.

Ridiculous. Watch your kids when they eat, period. We're talking less than 100 deaths per year from hot dog chokings. If a kid's gonna choke, it could be on anything. This is moronic.

It is ultimately the responsibility of the parent. The fact that a pediatrician is needed to tell them not to feed their child food that they can choke on doesn't bode well.
I realize the pediatricians are taking into account that there are just crap parents that will fail to do the most simple and obvious things to maintain the welfare of their child. But I still think the idea of redesigning the freaking hot dog to cater to these idiots, is a poor reflection on the state of society.
