If people want more organic products, they have to give farmers a way to ease into it without losing profit. It's f'ing hard to be a small time farmer. Demanding immediate compliance with huge costs isn't going to help.

If it costs the farmers more, these costs will simply get passed along to consumers. If consumers want organic products and are willing to pay the price, I don't see what the problem is. I would (and do) pay more for products that meet stricter standards like this.

The problem is the transition. When farmers are switching to an all organic feed, but not quite there, who's going to pay the extra price? Just for the health of the cattle they can't just make an immediate switch. There'd likely be some GI disturbances.
