Remember me? SunnyDayDJ, the irreverant/irrelevant Republican Moderate? Well, guess what ladies and gentiles, I quit.
I fucking goddamn quit.
When I left Governor Bush's office 2 months ago, I was on the inside looking out, feeling comfortable, being happy with spin and pomp. Then, Terri Schiavo happened.
"James, we need a line that doesn't sound too... dead. We need a catchphrase."
"A catchphrase?"
"For the Governor. He needs a closing line for his press releases."
I thought for some time. Jeb wanted her to be kept alive. I went to my boss. "Well, there's some old Roe v. Wade gibberish about erring on the side of life."
Great.
The party, from Jeb, all the way to the President, recycled this "err on the side of life" crap into the ground. Personally, I was hoping they'd pull the plug. I was indifferent to her suffering because I believed her suffering didn't exist.
And that's when it happened.
Jesse Jackson and the Governor walked out of his office, shook hands, and made their way to the press conference. And Jesse Jackson said, "Err on the side of life." And I sat, as I watched my party play the irony game of whoring themselves out to look moral. To look better than the other guys, when they knew no matter what they did, they'd be in control.
And this woman who died so long ago became an issue for both sides, and I felt like this... well, for the first time I realized I was a paid liar. A hitman for policy points. A letter writer for a dyslexic politica, where Democrats sound Republican and Republicans just sound fucking crazy.
So I did, I quit, and I went to consult. Surely a firm would hire me. Nope. Instead, I'm with a nonprofit. We do good work. We build health centers for the underserved populations of Florida. We're federally qualified and granted. And I get to be a part of this small team, apolitical in nature, making a difference for the people that need it.
I still think Dean's a fucking maniac, Hillary's a bitch, and Bill was a liar. But now, they seem party to kin with the opposite side of the isle. Frist the liar and thief, Bush the rodeo clown getting the bull to folow him instead of that cowboy Cheney... Nader's a fucking nut, too, you ideological tarts.
No, no parties for me. No attachment.
Rod Smith, a Democrat will be running against Charlie Crist (wtf) and Chris Gallagher (wtfomg) for Governor next year in Florida. I'm voting Smith. He's fiscally conservative and socially liberal. I met him at a party before he was planning a run, and we talked shop. Good guy.
...
Good guy? You bet. I'll vote/work/sing and dance for the good guy.

Republicans make me giggle, and Democrats are too far right for me.

I don't know how anyone with your soul could work in government for any significant period of time, for either party, and not come out of it disgusted with the whole rotten mess.
I'd been wondering just this weekend when we might see you in this forum again. Good to see you still seeing things clearly.

I read Roe v Wade just for fun recently and remembered thinking "hmmm... wonder if they pulled it from there..."
It's a small world.
After all.
