From the Al Franken Show ... WAIT WAIT DON'T LIE TO ME!

Answers are in the second post. If people like this, I'll try to do this whenever they play the game. - B

The Internet version of our Clio Award-winning game, Wait Wait ... Don't Lie to Me! Clips can be lies, weasel words, true, or liesel. To win, get three out of five answers correct. What do you win? A link to Air America Radio's popular homepage!

Clip #1. Bill Frist on the "Today Show"
Quote:
LAUER: You were on the floor of the Senate at that time, not only as a Senator, but a doctor, and in talking about Ms. Schiavo, you said, quoting you know, “She does respond,” end quote. Were you wrong in your diagnosis?

[Cut]

FRIST: I never said, She responded. I said I reviewed the court videotapes-the same ones the other doctors reviewed-and I questioned, is her diagnosis correct?

Clip #2. Scott McClellan during his White House press briefing, 6/20/05:
Quote:
McCLELLAN: A free Iraq will be a powerful force for change in a very dangerous region of the world, a region where we had hijackers come from that killed some 3,000 innocent Americans.

Clip #3. President Bush delivering his radio address last Sunday:
Quote:
All of us can agree that the world's terrorists have now made Iraq a central front in the war on terror.

Clip #4. Bill O'Reilly and Ken Tomlinson, on the May 12 TV Factor. And O'Reilly's not lying!
Quote:
O'REILLY: Now, you said that you have never had any conversations with any Bush administration officials about PBS? Is that true?

TOMLINSON: That's true. Can you imagine that, considering all the charges that are flying back and forth? The point is not to gain support for the Bush administration. The point is to gain support for public television.

Clip #5. And finally, Rush Limbaugh talking about the Downing Street Memo:
Quote:
LIMBAUGH: In fact, the Associated Press has a story that the reporter who discovered the memos destroyed the originals and retyped them himself. There was some dispute over whether or not the original memos were destroyed. The original memos don't say anything. They don't prove anything, other than the Brits were concerned about the weapons of mass destruction in Iraq themselves.

For the answers and debunking, click the read more:

Clip #1 - Frist. LIE.

Clip #2 - McClellan. LIESEL/WEASEL. Same region of the world, sure, but the war in Iraq has nothing to do with the hijackers responsible for the death of those 3,000 innocent Americans.

Clip #3 - Bush. TRUE.
The New York Times reported this week on a classified assessment by the Central Intelligence Agency that said that, “Iraq, since the American invasion of 2003, had in many ways assumed the role played by Afghanistan during the rise of Al Qaeda during the 1980's and 1990's, as a magnet and a proving ground for Islamic extremists from Saudi Arabia and other Islamic countries.”

So the CIA agrees that Iraq is the central front in the war on terror. Thanks to Bush’s invasion.

Clip #4 - Tomlinson. LIE/LIESEL!Liesel because we can’t say for sure if Tomlinson had actual spoken "conversations' with Bush officials about public broadcasting, but we know he exchanged emails with them. The emails show a clear devotion to and communication with the White House.

Clip #5 - Rush. LIE. Media Matters covers this more.

See, that was where I was disputing it. The terrorists didn't make it the central front, the Bush Administration did.
