Wal-Mart heir dies in plane crash

Tuesday, June 28, 2005; Posted: 12:47 p.m. EDT (16:47 GMT)

John Walton served in Vietnam and sat on the board of the Walton family's philanthropic foundation.

Wal-Mart heir John Walton died Monday when his ultralight aircraft crashed after taking off from an airport in Jackson, Wyoming, the company announced.

Walton, 58, was the second son of Wal-Mart founder Sam Walton and served on the board of directors of the world's largest retailer.

He was ranked No. 7 on the Forbes magazine list of the 400 wealthiest Americans in 2004, with a fortune estimated at $20 billion.

Lots of people have died recently. Is there a particular reason we care about this guy more?

You actually consider them humans? I thought they were more on the demon side.

Michael Jordan is good at basketball.
Mike McCready is good at guitar.
The Wal-Mart family is good at capitalism.

What's the big deal? They've never really affected my life in a negative that I'm particularly aware of.

For some reason, whenever I hear about these small plane crashes, I'm always reminded of when JFK Jr died. And my mom crying.

Which brings up a good idea. Vintage news posts, to talk about things that happened before RM existed. No? not a good idea?

I'll be in the corner. sorry.

The list of people that wanted that guy dead is probably as long as the line at a Wal-Mart Customer Service counter.

Then again, .15/hr in bangladesh might be pretty good. It's all relative.

[quote="Electromatic"the guy had loads of money, why is he flying an ultralight?[/quote]

Cause daddy was using the leer jet? Cause he wanted to tempt fate? Cause everybody knows that "ultra-heavy" aircraft don't fly that well? Cause that pretty boy JFK Jr has been hogging all the People magazine coverage for the last decade. Goddamit when is it gonna be John Walton's turn?!

Oops...my bad.

I thought the question was "...should we care about this guy anymore"

AKA - "Why should we care at all."

Sorry 'bout that!

I think you are correct, but I still wanted to ask it anyways.
