I have to admit it. I’m seriously loving this week. I was describing it to a friend earlier how the Conservative movement in the Republican party is like any other movement in anything whether it be art or music or whatever. It’s built on a foundation of principles, comes of age and if popular enough or appealing, reaches a zenith until it implodes and turns on itself. Eventually drifting away...

Well this week I believe we have seen the culimination of all that with the Conservative movement and I can’t be happier about it. From time to time, I will tune into Rush or Hannity for 10 minutes until I get annoyed and turn to something more intellectually stimulating and for the last week to see this Conservative revolt against Bush and the Senate was laughable!

Here he had Rush and Hannity claiming they disagree with the administration and the administration’s policies and that their work is not theirs and they stand on principles and these politicians aren’t doing what the Conservatives claim they put them in office to do, so on and so forth.

This, from the same people who for the last 5 years have been claiming Bush as their own. Who for the last 5 years have had control over all three branches of government, now turning on it and claiming, “OH no, there’s still this liberal conspiracy that controls the government and they’re still thwarting us!”

Let’s face facts here. Conservatism as a political theory, I admit has some appeal. Smaller federal government, lower federal spending, smaller taxes, more autonomy to the states. Promoting business and entrenuerialship. As a theory, I think these things are important, most of us aren’t Marxists here, and I think would agree that we’d all love to pay smaller taxes. But its in the manifestation of these principles that I and I think most left-leaning people out there strongly disagree with. It’s simply the fact that these conservatives and their actions time and again fail to admit the truth. Their philosophy DOES NOT SOLVE this country’s problems. They have led us into an unnecessary war, the economy is just kinda stagnant supported only by a real estate bubble, we have a huge federal budget deficit, more people are trying to do more with less. I could go on and on and on.

Republicans can’t have it both ways. They can’t control all three branches of our government, be corrupted by their power by turning on their principles, fail to solve America’s problems, and then blame some “luny Liberal conspiracy” for the country’s problems. Sorry folks, when you have the White House, a majority in the House and Senate, and 6 of the 9 judges on the Supreme Court appointed by a Republicans and then sit there and say you are being thwarted. It just doesn’t fly.

Ok, end rant.

I listen to Hannity and the likes. I have always found the opinions of then on the justices that have "turned" on them hilarious. They have a republican President who appoints a justice. Then the justices rule on cases and side with the more liberal justices and that means they have turned or been bad choices.

Unfortunatly, or maybe fortunatly, I don't think things will turn around for the Dems. They are way segmented, like European politics, and it will be hard for them to field a candidate that appeals to all.

Frankly these lying neo-cons are getting politically what they deserved.

Hannity has to be my least favorite human, and although I would save him from drowning, I would slap him with an oar when he got on the boat.

I wish I was as good a person as you. I'd slap him with the oar when he was still in the water.

Sounds like sound governing to me. I think it is important to seperate conservative (in the fiscal sense) from simply being Republican. The two do not always go hand in hand. It is also important to remember that there are very, very few liberals who could be considered fiscally conservative. In fact, quite the antithesis.

See I disagree. I think the conservative ideology as I stated is believed by many liberals. I mean it's common sense. But their overarching belief is that the only thing that can support individual rights and help the citizenry is a powerful federal government. The state governments leave too many people behind. Unfortunately a powerful federal government leads to increased taxes, government waste, pork barrel spending and then so on. So in a sense, I agree with the goals of the conservative ideology BUT at the same time, I strongly disagree with their total lack of caring for the plight of the poor and I find myself time and again endorsing the liberal ideology though it does sometimes veer into government waste.
