Injuries in London tube blasts Power surge being blamed for incidents across city

LONDON, England -- Several people have been injured as explosions blamed on a power surge closed down the entire London Underground network.
Travellers emerged from tunnels covered in blood and soot. Emergency services reported several injuries. Scotland Yard declared the emergency a "major incident."
Emergency services were called to London's Liverpool Street Station after reports of an explosion shortly before 9 a.m.
A short while later, London Underground said there had been "another incident at Edgware Road" station in north west London.
A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We have just sent some resources out to the scene. We have sent a number of vehicles to Liverpool Street station."
Police told the UK Press Association there were "walking wounded" and said paramedics had responded to one report of a person classed as "life at risk."
"There are walking wounded, but that is as much as we know at the moment," said the spokesman.
He confirmed that the incident took place on the Metropolitan Line between Aldgate and Liverpool Street and said the line has been evacuated. King's Cross, Liverpool Street and Aldgate stations have also been cleared.
The incident caused major disruption to the entire network with stations across the capital being closed.
Passengers were told that all services were being suspended because of a power fault across the network.
A City of London Police spokesman said: "We have closed Liverpool Street station as well as Aldgate.
"We believe there was some sort of explosion. There are some walking wounded at Aldgate. "We are not sure of the scale of the incident. Reports are still coming in."

People hurt in Tube 'power surge' King's Cross
Passengers were evacuated from King's Cross station
Several people have been injured after explosions blamed on a power surge led to the whole London Underground network being closed down.
British Transport Police said some of the power surges had caused explosions.
Surges took place at Aldgate, Edgware Road, King's Cross, Old Street and Russell Square stations.
A spokesman said there were "walking wounded" at Liverpool Street station but one person's life was reported to be "at risk".
London Fire Brigade said four crews were at Liverpool Street and more were on their way.
A British Transport Police spokesman said that emergency services were dealing with reports of an explosion at 0849 BST on the Metropolitan Line between Liverpool Street and Aldgate.
One passenger, who had left the Tube at Fenchurch Street Station, and walked to Aldgate East, told BBC Five Live that he saw injured people.
"As I walked through the bus station I could see people lying on the ground, black, as if they'd been covered in smoke. There were about three or four people on the floor being treated."
Eyewitness Paul Woloszyn from BBC News, who was at Blackhorse Road station on the Victoria Line, said: ""We were told there was a bomb at Liverpool Street station.
"I was on the Tube, and they stopped the train and told everyone to get off an evacuated the station."
He said staff had said the entire Tube network had been affected, and leaflets had been handed out with details of alternative bus routes.
Another eyewitness, Dorothy Molloy, had been on a Tube train at King's Cross and said "staff just chucked everyone out of the station".
She said staff there had not given any details, but she said two passengers she had spoken to had said they had received messages saying there had been bombs.
"People didn't really know what was going on, they were just huffing and puffing and saying how annoying it was," she said.
"People don't seem to be panicked, but there's so many police and ambulances coming into the areas. People are just concerned, and some are just annoyed at the delay."

Planned and coincidental to the Olymics announcement?
Awful all the same.

The government is asking the media not to speculate - sources are already throwing out Al Qaeda but I think it is best to wait for info to come through.
Several people have been injured after a series of explosions, initially blamed on power surges, led to the whole London Underground network being closed down.
Eyewitnesses tell BBC News what they have seen and heard from around the capital.
JIM MILLINGTON, TAVISTOCK SQUARE
There's a bus, formerly a double-decker bus outside the BMA building and clearly destroyed by a bomb. And there are at least one or two fatalities laid out on the pavement.
It must have been on the bus because the top deck is destroyed and what's below is not destroyed. It was a bomb on the top deck of a bus.
GREG NOONAN, LONDON
I just cycled in from Lewisham to Liverpool St and the amount of people out on the streets now is incredible.
It looks serious as all the emergency services and people around the roadblocks north of the river were very serious indeed.
ANDY ABERNATHY, LONDON
It was a train on the Piccadilly line between King's Cross and Russell Square and literally it was just a very loud bang. The train derailed.
There was smoke everywhere. There was no fire but the smoke was quite oppressive.
There were a lot of serious injuries down there as well. A lot of serious head injuries.
A guy by me thought he was going to die, I'm hoping he got out ok.
CHRISTINA LAWRENCE, KING'S CROSS
There was a loud bang in the tunnel and the train just stopped and all of a sudden it was filled with black, gassy smoke and we couldn't breathe and it was stinging our eyes and the lights went out and it just took a while for people to get to us and it was very scary.
I thought we weren't going to get out because we couldn't get off the train.

I live in London and to be honest everyone is really calm about it, we've been dealing with this shit for decades (IRA anyone?). My girlfriend is a Police Officer and the amount of training they go through for situations like this is unbelievable.
Actually, they are just saying now that it may be Al-Queida. This is all timed for the G8 summit. Looks like the 'War on Terror' is really working isn't it George/Tony.

More likely to be G8 related (since Gleneagles meeting officially commences today).
Doubtful that the terrorists have the resources to put together such an attack within 24 hours of the announcement of the 2012 games' winners.
Well, at least I hope they don't have the resources for that
My family in London has reported everyone's safe. Hope everyone else gets similar comforting news.
Fuck these dickheads...

I hate it when shit like this happens. I'm pretty sure it was Al-Qaeda, to be honest it was just a matter of time.
It has all the hallmarks of an al-Qaeda attack. It's very similar to Madrid. And the IRA usually warn or take immediate responsibility. Unlikely to be them.
And yes it was a matter of time, but then again no one's ever denied that. Certainly not Bush or Blair.

I haven't heard from my family in London yet, but I think everything is ok.
The MI5 director and security services had already warned that a terrorist attack in London would happen sooner or later, but no one is ever prepared for this.
