Beginning in May '05 a new database became available to the general public, free of charge, that displays your personal information (names, addresses, phone numbers, birth dates).
Check to see if your name and information is in their database. If so and you want it removed, send them an e-mail at mail to: info@zabasearch.com to request it be removed.
After opting out by email, check back after a few days to make certain your information has been removed.
and I am not really sure if I should be worried about it or not.
My name pops up, but only my maiden name. My husband, mother, and in laws are all in there too. The email I received indicated that this site might be selling credit card info??? I can't imagine how they would stay up and running if this were true.
And the simple fact remains that I could go to any town hall or assessors office and get way more info than is displayed on this website. (Though on this website I could pay a fee and do a background check on anyone they have in their database--but big deal, there are plenty of websites like that).
So what the hell is this website for and why does it make people so nervous?

Seems like a scam to collect email addresses. My name shows up in there 7 times - once with my parents' address, 3 times with an address and phone number from grad school, once with my immediately previous address, a few times with my actual birth month and year, a few times with my mom's birth month and year, and then my parents show up listed at my previous address (which they've never lived at). I also show up at an address that I never lived at.
I don't think you can get a credit card in my name with just that info (esp. when it's old).

Yeah my name shows up three times, one with a phone number, none with my current information though. I really don't like this. There are a couple of people I would prefer were not able to contact me.
It is funny to search the names. There are several Gaylord Fockers, a Felipe A Fuck, Ima Fag, and a Wing J Shit. These can't all be real. Actually, sadly they could.

It shows my current address, plus my parent's old address, plus 3 college addresses. One old number is there that isn't current. I think my address is public record b/c my name is on the lease. This might actually throw someone off if they were trying to hunt me down. I'll leave it.

I didn't see my name on there but it was probably because it's so common and there are literally hundreds. I almost would NOT want to email them for fear of getting ADDED to the list versus getting properly removed.
The one that really bothers me is, if you purchase a house or enter into a rental agreement, or some other such "public record", marketing lists throw your information out there and you get bombarded with junk mail and added to lists that, if you don't send all the crap back with requesting to be "removed", can go on for YEARS. What a waste of time; but since the US Postal Service is getting paid by the sender to send the crap, you're stuck receiving it.
I think we received 10 Victoria's Secret catalogs in the first two weeks at our new home with the name of the previous owner in a variety of spellings. It took two months to get off of that list, but I think they differ insomuch as they seem to be obligated to remove an address (rather than continuing to send catalogs with "or current resident" on it), perhaps because of the subject/content?
It's great how you can pay the phone company to NOT list your phone number, but it can somehow end up in an online database along with your address for anyone to query.....
