Complain if you want. I refuse to discourage such behavior.

You don't think our laws around alcohol are responsible for binge drinking? How big of a problem is binge drinking in Germany?
I binge drink cause I don't got the time to be an alcoholic. Every once in a while I like to throw caution out the window and get really, really piss drunk. After that I'm good to go. What kind of laws are we talking about?

It's the "cookie jar" mentality. We're incredibly restrictive with alcohol consumption, but the restrictions are completely arbitrary. THEN, we glorify the consumption of it.
It's ridiculous. Why can't a 17 year old have a beer? Oh, wait until you're 21..then you can go out that night, drink 15 shots of tequila and get alcohol poisoning to celebrate your adulthood!
Edited to add:
In Washington, they have incredibly bizarre rules about booze. In most venues (arenas, ampitheaters) you can't have a drink and watch the show. You must be contained into a beer garden. So, better slam that beer if you don't want to miss the show!

what angers me is that you can enlist in the army and die for your country at age 18, but you cannot buy or drink alcohol at age 18.
WTF? How completely arbitrary is all this?

No idea, but I watched my sister order drinks when we were with our parents, all they really did was give the waitress the "thumbsup" and out came a drink.

ugh. again, so arbitrary.
at least here if someone under 18 wants to get pierced, the kid has to bring a parent and a birth certificate.

Binge drinking exists in Germany as well. Laws considering nudity are extremely liberal in Germany. You can be naked almost everywhere you feel like doing it. I love it.

i think they don't care as long as you are with somebody that is 21. for bars, the parent and the kid have to leave their ids with the bartender and only the parent can actually buy the drinks, but the kid is free to drink all drinks purchased for him. i know these crazy rules cuz one of my roommates worked it with his dad last year in souptown (superior, wi, the trashiest city i've ever been to, which happens to be across a bridge from duluth).
