Could humankind's greatest strength also be our greatest weakness?

911: The destruction of two buildings results in the shaking of financial markets around the world. It also results in two wars.

Hurricane Katrina: Possibly the worst natural disaster of the US. The shut down of any infrastructure leading to death and violence. The panic of which might set off a national gasoline shortage.

Asian Tsunami: Will we ever even have an idea of the magnatude of human tragedy?

Is our ability to civilize; the ability to create vast infrastructures that sustain not only our lifestyles but our very lives also our greatest weakness? Have we become so dependent on Wal Mart that even two days without it cause panic across the region?

you have no idea how many times I think about that.

Could it be that in the end they'll be best suited to live in the world?

With gas prices soaring (among other things) and the fact that they have no dependance on such things makes you stop and think.....sometimes simpler is better.

if I didn't eat the Hershey's would I have the diabetes that I need medication for that causes me to loot the drugstore where I bought the candy as a kid?

If I didn't drive the car would they build a store that needed a car to get to?

Imagine never having flown in a plane.
Imagine never having ridden a roller coaster.
Imagine never having hung over the railing on a huge bridge.
Imagine never having visited your state or the national aquarium.
Imaigine never having tasted a beer.
Football games.
Festivals.
Going to the top of the CN Tower, the Sears Building, the Space Needle.

Those and a thousand other things made my life exciting. I'm not saying we've got it right, but the balance isn't very far onto the Amish side either.

Just go camping a few times a year and you'll be alright when the shit hits the fan. A couple guns probably won't hurt either, but I'll wait to buy those with kids in the house and all.
