Religious Lawmaker Wants To Ban Sports On Sundays
POSTED: 12:05 pm EDT September 23, 2005

WHITE HOUSE, Tenn. -- Play ball! As long as it's not Sunday morning.

Alderman Darrel Leftwich is proposing that the city establish new Sunday hours for White House Municipal Park so sporting events could only be held in the afternoon.

"I am concerned that we are not sending the right message to the community by having tournaments and league play during worship hours," Leftwich said.

Leftwich said that he drove by the park Sunday morning on his way to services at Temple Baptist Church and saw that it was full of people at a soccer tournament.

"God our Father intended the seventh day to be one of rest and worship," Leftwich said during this week's city board meeting. He asked the city manager to draft an ordinance that would restrict Sunday hours at parks in the town, about 20 miles north of Nashville.

Alderman Farris Bibb Jr. said the city should go slow before enacting a change. "With all due respect to Alderman Leftwich, the seventh day of the week is Saturday," Bibb said.

Is it fair to say this violates a separation of church and state or does that make me a libtard?

Well, you're still a libtard, but for reasons entirely unrelated to this thread . . .

No, libtard. A city council has every right to regulate such things.

It just makes the people who would RE-tards.

if god is going to forgive us of all our sins and not keeping the sabbath day holy is a sin then we might as well keep doing it because we will be forgiven anyway.

(Like I even care, I just wanted to play.)

This is utter bullshit, and I'm sick of Xtian nutjobs assuming that I'm xtian too. I'm not. Sunday doesn't mean shit to me besides a good long sleep in and maybe some shoppin'. What about the orthodox Jewish community? It's against their religion to be outside after sundown on a Friday. Should we ban sports then, as well? How about during the multiple times a day that muslims have to stop to pray?
I believe fully 100% that Xtians have the right to ignore football games on Sunday mornings, Jewish people have the right to go home on a friday night, and muslims can pray as freely as they wish. (and etc, and etc and etc) But not one of them has even a molicule of a right to tell ME when and where I can do things.

You are aware that simply typing the "Christ" in "Christian" doesn't necessarily give people the impression that you're a Christian, correct?

If this is the case then what about people who worship on Wednesday nights? And how about when they are praying over the food that they are about to recieve or everytime someone bows in prayer over something?

Give me a fuckin break. I will pray to my god that you stupid fucks get a damn life. They won't stay out of people's bedrooms and now they are tyring to control what people do in their own living rooms.

Fuck them.

Bastards!!

*lazy typer*

edit for clarification:

Actually, years ago, I used to be on a Wiccan list. "xtian" kind of became the generic term for the not-so-christianly folk, (ie the judgemental unwelcoming unloving sort) and it kinda stuck.

I would just like to point out that the Bills observed the Sabbath and refrained from playing today.

Surely having to go to a church or a mosque isn't resting?
