Do you guys feel that your employer is responsible for providing health care coverage, or is it just a "benefit"?

Personally, I'd go on the side of benefit, not requirement or responsibility.

Philosophically, I'll side with benefit as well, though it sure is nice when the private sector can do something and not necessite the public sector.

Benefit. I feel fortunate to even have health care and even luckier that my employeer pays 1/2. We pay for our own dental care though.

In another few years, I think I'll be paying for 100% of the health care costs.

I don't feel an employer should be required to supply health care. It's purely a benefit or reward for a quality employee. I do feel the federal gov't should provide at least some sort of basic care for all, but that's a whole other can of worms.

I gotta think there's some kind of cost/benefit analysis that shows that supplying your workers with health insurance costs less than leaving them to fend for themselves.

You'd have longer job searches finding workers that will work without it. You'd likely get less productive workers. If they got sick and couldn't afford treatment, they'd be out longer. Greater turnaround which in turn means more job searches. Etc.

it's a benefit, but it's also an expectation these days, at least for most "career" type jobs.
employers (smart ones, anyway...) understand that to attract the best talent, they need to offer the best compensation package. i blame capitalism.

health care is a basic human right. You shouldn't have to pay for it. What country do you live in that doesn't provide it's citizens basic health care? You should move.

Why should one's health be based on the amount of money they have or the quality of the job they secured?

For the record, the very poor are given healthcare by the states (I'm assuming every state has a system somewhere along the lines of Medicaid, which means that hospitals have to treat them despite not much in the way of reimbursement for services provided) Its just those with jobs that get shafted.
