Slew of Republicans refer to Democratic party as "plantation" - when are they apologizing?
by John in DC - 1/17/2006 05:42:00 PM

If Hillary needs to apologize for using the word "plantation" to describe the GOP, I can't wait for the media to now demand apologies from:

Townhall.com
The National Review
The Wall Street Journal
Rush Limbaugh Show
Newsmax
The Washington Times
Bob Novak
Newt Gingrich

Hat tip to Atrios for the idea and the main Google link.

You should start wrapping your head in saran wrap then. Less mess that way.

Newsflash:

All of those people you listed have already been crucified by the media and Hillary has essentially gotten of scott clean.

A few days ago there was some pundit on CNN and the interviewer was asking how Hillary wasn't getting lambasted like Newt did.

"Because she's Hillary, and she can! She's got this way about attending to her business..."

In other words, the media doesn't care and has her back. And they crucified Newt for it.

I'd be curious to see evidence of this lambasting.

How many articles would lambasting equate to?

I'll take one, if it's at all decent. Of course, if Newt didn't apologize, then I don't know if Hilary should.

Also, unrelated to your post ... has the NAACP commented?

However, the host of the event where Clinton made her remarks Monday, activist Al Sharpton, disagreed with the criticism.

"I absolutely defend her saying it because I said it through the '04 elections," he said.

I'll find some good ole Newt articles in the coming days.

Defenders of Clinton also have pointed out comments made in 1994 by former GOP House Speaker Newt Gingrich, shortly before Republicans won a majority in the House, in which he said Democrats "think it's their job to run the plantation" and that "it shocks them that I'm actually willing to lead the slave rebellion."

I don't defend Hillary's comments ... but she was talking about treatment of others, Newt was using the "slave" metaphor for himself. Go tell a black man that you know all about oppression because when you go to work in the Senate, the other side out votes you.

I imagine you'll be unconscious before you finish the word "Senate."

Bullshit. Complete and utter bullshit.

After Hillary said her stupid thing, I heard about it at the top of every newscast for two or three days. I didn't even know about these other instances by conservatives until I read this thread, and I get my news from "liberal" media outlets. Obviously they weren't the ones "lambasting" these conservatives.

Or maybe they didn't bother to report it because they simply expect as much from those people, eh? Seriously man, from where you are on earth, you know as little about the American media as we do over here about the situation on the ground over there. Yet, you're an expert on both. :?
