ALEXANDRIA, Va. - A federal jury rejected the death penalty for al-Qaida conspirator Zacarias Moussaoui on Wednesday and decided he must spend life in prison for his role in the deadliest terrorist attack in U.S. history. After seven days of deliberation, the nine men and three women rebuffed the government's appeal for death for the only person charged in this country in the four suicide jetliner hijackings that killed nearly 3,000 people on Sept. 11, 2001.

Sounds about right to me. Had they given him the death penalty he would have only been seen as a martyr.

He wanted the death penalty.

Did he want it for that very reason? Or was it a Gary Gilmore type thing?

I'm sure it was for the martyr reason, or the not wanted to be ass-raped for the next 40 years thing.

Either way, I'm REALLY happy that this came out this way. Executing this piece of shit would have been awful.

I imagine he'll be kept in solitary for the rest of his life. If child molesters get it bad, I can't imagine what would happen to him out in the open.

There are a LOT of black Muslims in prison. They'll have his back, if he wants to live.

I don't know about this. He helped murder thouands of people, do you really think Black muslims are going to stick up for him? I seriously doubt it.

The death penalty is morally wrong, so this was the best choice. Know what would be better? Feeding him nothing but pork for the rest of his life.

And then defiling his corpse, and burying him face down with a pig and the unclaimed body of a prostitute.

We could just make him watch Garden State over and over, aka The Ninth Circle of Hell.

All that sounds lovely, but of course we'd have to leave his body out on display in the open air for a couple weeks before hand, just to top it off.

i'm not sure why everyone acts like another martyr makes a single bit of difference. these sick fucks don't need another excuse to plot and execute attacks. there are already thousands upon thousands ready to strap the next bomb/fly the next plane/etc.

personally i wish they would have given him the needle.

You are absolutely correct. In fact, you'd be surprised just how many are on the FBI's watch list. They are surveilling the shit out of prisons right now.

Perhaps no one will understand what I'm getting at here, but do you think that now he becomes just another rallying point for wackos like him, kind of like a Charles Manson figure? I don't know if that's the best analogy but maybe someone will understand what I'm getting at. Just a thought.

That said, I think this was the right thing to do, from my perspective anyway.
