Yes, I see theres a few threads on the topic already, BUT, This thread is to STOP the insane emails and myspace bulletins and whatever else telling you to boycott Mobil/Exxon gas, and to "not buy gas on Monday, well show the oil companies"

IT WILL NOT HELP!!!!!
IT WILL NOT HELP!!!!!

I work at a gas station, I know what im talking about.

The "dont buy gas from Mobil", "Dont buy gas on X date" WILL NOT HELP

IN FACT, my co-workers are losing hours because of our loss business to the "dont buy gas from MobiL" and the big wigs at Exxon Mobil are still racking it in.

The US uses more oil then ANY other country. YET, we pay ALOT Less then everyone else. My friend in Denmark is paying over 6$

OVER 6$ AND WERE COMPLAINING?????

http://money.cnn.com/pf/features/lists/ ... gasprices/

You want to make a difference, and help slow the rise, heres some things you can all do.

A: WALK / RIDE A BIKE / CAR POOL, ESPECIALLY on short trips. It cost more gas to simple start youre engine, then it does to drive a few miles. Short trips burn more fuel then most people realizes. Thats why you get better gas milage on Highway driving then city driving. Along with the stoping/staring at lights in the city.

B: GET THE PEOPLE DRIVING SUV's to GET THE HELL out of them!!!!! If 100 people, go from a 15 miles per gallon SUV, and switch to a 25 mpg car, thats 10 miles they will drive, virtually FOR FREE. Lets do some more math shall we? Lets say both the SUV and Car have 10 gallon tanks (Yes SUV's have alot bigger tanks then 10 gallons, but 10 makes the math easier)

10 gallon tank SUV goes 150 miles
10 gallon car goes 250 miles

100 more miles that car drives on one tank of gas.
on 10 tanks of gas, the SUV goes 1,500 miles
the car goes 2,500

at the price of 3$ a gallon, the 10 tanks the car got, to go 2,500 miles, it will cost 300$, for the SUV to go that same distance, it will take 16.6 fill ups, instead of the 10 the car took, costing the SUV 498$!!!!!

The Car owner is saving almost 200$ for the same amount of driving. 200$, AND 66 gallons of Fuel.

If 100 people switch from SUVs to Cars, thast
$20,000 the oil companys WILL NOT GET
and 6,600 gallons of fuel, that WILL NOT BE BURNED

Just from ONE HUNDRED people switching.
and we all know how many soccer moms are driving these gas hogs to and from work.

AND THEYRE THE FIRST ONES COMPLAINING TO ME THE POOR GUY AT THE GAS STATION WHO HAS NO SAY IN THE BLOODY MESS!!!!!

So, whys the price going up you ask?????

Its the Walmart effect, yes thats right, Walmart effect.
CHINA/INDIA, and other nations over there, are offereing cheap clothes / shoes and other products, that the US stores like Walmart sell. China/India, and the others, are rapidily growing, and rapidly catching up too / passing the US's oil consumtion. This is whats causing the prices to go up up and away. simple supply and demand..... the demand was driven up faster then the supply was being produced. (On a side rant, the reason Walmart and the others buy these products from China/India, the others, is because, Walmart/Target and the like, want to charge 10$ for a shirt..... at the current minimum wage in the US, no one can make that shirt for 10$..... China/India, and the others however, CAN and ARE making these shirts/shoes whatever at slave wages, allowing them to make the shirt for pennies, sell it to walmart for a few dollars, and walmart/target and the others, make big profits..... and you say the oil companies are bad????? and dont even get me started on CDs and DVDs priced under cost at those retail chains..... Larz and the boys should be more pissed at Walmart/Target then at Napster)

ANYWAY,

not buying gas on certain days, or from Exxon/Mobil, WILL NOT HELP AT ALL.
In fact, If everyone stops buying Exxon Mobil gas..... BP/Kwik Trip and the others WILL NOT be able to produce enough gas to keep up (considering Mobil/Exxon sells hte most, that would be ALOT of new customers at the others) And when those others cant keep up, supply goes down, demand goes up, and PRICE GOES UP!!!!! And people who work at the Mobil/Exxon gas stations get laid off.....

PLEASE, pass this around..... Im not making this stuff up.....
I better see this get reposted on the Bulletins!!!!!

GET THE SUV's OFF THE ROAD.....

(one last thing..... someone should dig into how much oil the US Military is burning up in this lil war of theirs..... a F6F Hellcat (WW2 fighter) burned 6 gallons of fuel A MINUTE during combat speeds...... 6 gallons a MIN..... and 1 gallon a Min at cruise speeds...... I would not be shocked to find out the Military burns as much fuel as the US population does per day.....)

If had kids, I would buy a SUV to help protect them in an accident. End of story.

But I totally agree boycotting gas stations is ignorant.

trucks, all depends on if you need it..... farmers, construction works, that type.....

and sports cars, depends on the type, some of those import ones get damn good gas millage.

Muscle cars however.....
And whats really hard for me, is I love WW2 history / especially aviation, and look forward to the airshow here every year, that has the largest gathering of WW2 era airplanes..... But knowing how much fuel those rich doctors and lawyers are burning in those hot rods of the sky?

Between gas and insurance, It costs on avg 3500$ PER HOUR to operate a B-17 (which is why rides are given at $400 a person)

Is there really any reason half the private / small planes are in the air on any given day? nope.....

But the reason SUV's are the bigger target here, are because there are SO many soccer moms and yuppies driven them all of 5 miles to and from work everyday.... taking the lunch breaking driven 2 miles to McD's or where ever..... And those SUV drivers, generally are the first ones to bitch at the prices.....

And you feel that their freedom to do this should be restricted?

I love how its okay to stereotype how someone is BASED on their cars.

So should i assume that everyone driving an american car is a liberal? Cause Liberals are all about helping the working class of america. no wait a second, they all drive toyotas and hondas because they have better quality- fuck the american worker if it makes my visor squeak a little.

should i assume everyone in a pick up is a Redneck republican? Cause im sure pick ups and trucks dont help those that take meals and charity donations to less fortunate.

should i assume that because i see a single lady in mcdonalds drive thru in her SUV is just a Rich Republican whore who doesnt give a shit? no wait, maybe she is an enviromentalist who needs the room because she rescues wildlife.

This SUV is the devil nonsense is goddamned ridiculous. You dont know the people driving them. You dont know their reasons for having it- so dont judge them based on their car.

and by the way, the people that complain the most about gas prices is rarely those with the SUVs (i should say large suv's, because most smaller SUV's - or even CUV's- get similar mileage to cars or at least minivans)- they know what sacrifice they are making for buying a large vehicle.

Of course. Rich people's freedom of choice should be restricted to help the poor. The median income of an SUV owner is between $50,000 and $75,000, hardly rich.

If it's approved for use on the highway, I support your freedom to do that.

DRIVE SUV's

This is not a debate on who drives them and what for, This is a debate showing you just how much $$ and gallons of fuel could be saved, If we got the people who are in SUVS, WHO HAVE NO REASON TO BE IN SUV's, OUT of them.

Boycotting Mobil/Exxon
Not buying gas on Mondays

WILL DO NOTHING

compaired to getting Soccer Mom out of the SUV

Republican / Democrat / Liberal / whatever....

If youre driven an SUV to and from work, and have never taking it off the road, or hauled anything in it.... GET RID OF IT

MY MOM INCLUDED..... And I told her off just last night about it too.

What’s with the excessive use of the ellipses. Just curious really.

There are a lot of smaller cars with excellent safety ratings. I'd look more to where the airbags are, and how the frame is constructed than the sheer size of the vehicle.

Working at a gas station. hmm. well if thats not an all encompassing poll, i dont know what is.

Your sample size is tremendously skewed i think. In my experience, the rich and wealthy use debit or credit cards for their transactions and would rarely have cause to go into the station itself. So because thats my experience, SUV owners must be poor.

I think a more likely explanation is that it is a simple point of brief conversation in a gas station- like "how about this weather?" when standing int he park.

I love the target on Soccer moms.... Because those should be the people you WANT driving SUV's. Soccer mom, indicates to me, the mom that is taking all the neighborhood kids to practice- therefore hauling kids....
Which would you rather have, and which uses more gas, 5 cars with two people each going to practice, or 1 SUV with 6 people?

And again, who are you to judge what makes a person think they need an SUV? So should my dad with a bad knee not be allowed to drive an SUV, even though getting down into a car is damned near impossible? He doesnt haul stuff often, and he definately doesn't off road. Ill be sure to let him know.

and i hope your mother smacked you in the face for your condemning of people based purely on the car they drive.

Newsflash: The economy grew at 4.8% for the first quarter. I know, I know, numbers like that are frontpage news in 1999. But you might actually have to go all the way back to the business section to find a little truth these days in the economy.

Oh, SUV sales have also continued to climb a bit.

On the topic of SUVs, I think they're only a problem when there's only one person driving them who never has other passengers, never carries cargo, etc. SUVs can be great carpool cars, especially since the bigger ones carry up to 7 people, and many people buy them to cart their kids around in and what not, so you really can't blame them. Don't get mad at the car, get mad at people for being wasteful and irresponsible.

But...but...but...

That makes sense!

It's much funner to be irrational and hate a style of car simply because it exists.

My dad had a full size Suburban until this year. He had kids with practices and equipment, and need to tow a boat, and transport supplies for a month-long vacation every year, and, well, could have done it in a slightly smaller vehicle, let's face it. Anyway, my brother is off to college now, and my sister will be soon, so this year they're downsizing to a Honda Pilot and a CR-V.

It's not about the "style" of the car. It's about having more car than you need. No one needs an H2, I'm sorry. No one needs a Lamborghini either. Anything that you need to do with those cars can be done in a different car that gets gas mileage twice as good (allowing up to a whopping 15 mpg!!!). So while blanket criticisms of SUV's are unwarranted, because as Orpheus said 7 people in an Explorer is more efficient than 7 people in three Escorts, someone who commutes to work alone in an Explorer is being a drain on society.

How about my aunt and uncle. They have an Explorer and an Excursion. They have 3 kids with number 4 on the way, along with a 30 foot camper.
They live in the sticks. I mean...so far as WNY goes, you don't get much more stickish than where they are. Car pooling is useless to him as he is a Special Ed teacher that travels anywhere from Irondeqouit NY, down into Ontario country, and all the way across Rochester into Greece.

Is he inherently evil because he can be spotted going from school to school in the Excursion by himself?

How many people are like my uncle Rob? Oh, if ya'll only knew my last name...
