School Bans Sesame Street Gang T-Shirts

POSTED: 10:53 am EDT May 24, 2006

BROCKTON, Mass. -- A high school in Massachusetts has banned certain T-shirts featuring Sesame Street characters.

But these aren't typical pictures of Big Bird and the crew.

In some, Bert and Ernie are standing in a gang posture, armed with automatic weapons. Others feature Oscar the Grouch emerging from his garbage can, wielding a 9 mm handgun.

Brockton High School Principal Susan Szachowicz said only a few of the shirts appeared, but that was enough for the school to ban them because of the violent, pro-gang message.

She said the T-shirts also violate the school's dress policy.

What a stupid thing to get upset about. Why not discourage girls from disrespecting themselves and ban "Porn Star" shirts instead?

I belive that guns, cursing, AND sexual innuendo were banned from clothing in my high school.

Wow Brockton is right near my house. It's not exactly a nice city.

I was driving through there and some dude tried to jump in front of my car, presumably to get hit, and then get insurance money. The kicker was that I was driving an '87 corolla.

This is actually a technique used by car-jackers around DC.

wear it to school, hopefully be told to take it off/change shirts, so the school for freedom of speech violation, win big, and give me 5% for suggesting the idea.
