OK, I and the other mods have pretty much let N&D run free for a long time because for the most part, everyone here keeps the debate smart and civil, even when the subjects are emotional and controversial. This has been degrading in recent days.

Enough is enough. Cut out the personal attacks, and stick to the subject matter of the debate. I'm itching to give some people vacations right now, and I don't really care who started it, or who took it to the next level, or whether you agree with me or not, or whether you've appealed to me about the situation or not.

I'm going to ask the other mods to keep an eye on N&D as well because things haven't been this bad here since the elections.

I like a lively debate, and I think you all know that I'm pretty tolerant of a lot of borderline comments and debate tactics because I respect you all to have strong minds and thick skins. But I'm not going to stand by and watch people make stupid posts that add nothing to the debate except to anger others. If you're going to piss someone off, make a valid point or take the bush league shit somewhere else.

as soon as the insults start in a seemingly rational debate, i immediately disregard what the insulting poster has to say as irrelevant.

if the point cannot be made without an insult, then i can't see where there was much of a point to begin with.

Name calling is not ok, but I really don't think anyone here takes themselves so seriously that real anger comes through in posts. Sure we all feel passionate about things, and have a spectrum of opinions on issues, but I doubt that there's anyone I wouldn't want to hear from in these threads even if they are of the complete opposite viewpoint.

If you are not a frequent N&D'r then it may appear to be a anger filled bunch of armchair quarterbacks trying to justify their own self proclaimed morally and logically superior positions over events they have no effect on but in reality it's.. uhh...

I think you're right. But several posts of "you're a[n] so-and-so" back and forth tend to turn people off from commenting on the actual material. I know that's the case for me.

So, is anybody else shocked that the first personal attack that was split from that thread came from g_v?
