Harris: Separation of church and state 'a lie'

RAW STORY
Published: Thursday August 24, 2006

In a lengthy interview with Florida Baptist Witness, struggling U.S. Senate candidate Katherine Harris asserts, among other things, that the separation of church and state is a fallacy.

"We have to have the faithful in government and over time," the Witness quotes Harris as saying, "that lie we have been told, the separation of church and state, people have internalized, thinking that they needed to avoid politics and that is so wrong because God is the one who chooses our rulers."

Excerpted answers from the interview follow:

On civil rights for gays: "Civil rights have to do with individual rights and I don't think they apply to the gay issues. I have not supported gay marriage and I do not support any civil rights actions with regard to homosexuality."

When asked if abortion is a moral evil: "Yes. Because it's a life, it's a life. Life begins at conception."

Stem cell research: "I'm the only candidate in the primary or general who's voted against embryonic stem cell research and has voted for cord blood research and adult stem cell research. ... There are no successes for embryonic. That is why the private sector is not involved and there is no justification for taking a live embryo and destroying it."

Regarding the Florida primary: "Florida is the forerunner state. ...[W]hat happens in Florida sets the trend for what happens nationally. And with this election, if Bill Nelson wins, it’s going to be a very frightening proposition in 2008 in the presidential elections because whoever wins Florida will win the presidency."

The interview in full is available here.

Let's not forget this evil bitch basically handed the Bush v. Gore case to the Supreme Court in 2000. If our society was any less civil, she would have been gutted like a pig a long time ago.

The 2000 elections, there was the whole controversy with Florida. With the recounts and everything.

From wikipedia

"Harris certified that the Republican candidate, then-Texas Governor George W. Bush, had defeated the Democratic candidate, Vice-President Al Gore, in the popular vote of Florida and thus certified the Republican slate of electors. Her ruling was challenged, and overturned on appeal by Florida's Supreme Court. This decision, however, was itself reversed by the U.S. Supreme Court in Bush v. Gore. That Court ruled (5-4) that Gore's request to extend Florida's statutory deadline for ballot re-counts had no merit, because no Florida law at the time provided for that option. This ruling nullified the state court's decision, upholding Harris' certification. Because the statutory vote-counting deadline expired weeks before the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling, Gore had effectively run out of time to legally challenge Florida's official results. The decision foreclosed any further court challenges by Gore and resulted in Bush's margin of victory in Florida being officially tallied at 537 votes. When this became official, Florida's electoral votes—and the Presidency—went to George W. Bush."

Well...to be fair, blacks really aren't the best swimmers.

I had to rescue more black kids as a lifeguard then white kids. Seeing as how the white kids outnumbered the black kids 100-1, i would say that is significant.

I was also a competetive swimmer. There was 1 black dude in all of Oklahoma high schools that competed.

It's more of a cultural issue with african-americans, swimming isn't something that is respected or looked at as a skill to learn.
