i really shouldn't bother watching my local news stations anymore... they don't want to give us information or educate the public - they act like its a goddamn reality show...
so obviously you have all seen the "sneak peaks" of the news coming up when you approach like 6pm or 11pm whenever your station shows news. well yesterday their "teaser" was
COMING UP NEXT.... Osama Bin Laden has a new message for you - and its NOT a holiday greeting.
honestly? first they stop oprah to tell everyone that pedro signed with the mets (and people were pissed about the break taken to inform the world of yassir arafat's passing) and then this... its pathetic.

NPR and CNN, just dont watch crossfire or Jon Stewart will eat your soul. The New York Times is a great news source as well.
jon stewart is the shit. i adore the times as well, though i know it has quite a liberal bias (not like i'm complaining but still i recognize it). but salon.com has some decent news as well.
i feel like the daily show is some of the best news out there. and its MEANT to be entertainment but its really no different than most news outlets.

If you completely disregard the opinion pieces the New York Times is a good resource, though again stories that support more liberal stances will take precedence. I agree with all you've stated.

I don't watch much TV news lately, though we've watched the Jim Lehrer since when he was with McNeil as a team. CSpan isgood, NPR. In general we read Time and Newsweek. I like Jon Stewart lots (and it is entertaining) but I usually need to get to bed earlier.

Jim Lehrer is where it's at for TV news.
A true journalist with great respect for the tradition of neutrality is his trade. The US media, from what I've seen of it, definitely needs more people like him.
Someone who tells it as it is. To pursue the truth without an agenda.
