Naw, 60% seems about right to me.
One of Letterman's quotes raised an eyebrow, though:
"I'm very concerned about people like yourself who don't have nothing but endless sympathy for a woman like Cindy Sheehan. Honest to Christ. Honest to Christ."
Sure, one should be sympathetic for anyone who's lost a child in warfare, but that doesn't mean she gets carte blanche sympathy for everything she does.
Anyway, O'Reilly almost seemed excited when he said on his show that he was appearing on Letterman. I can't wait to find the video of this.

I kind of see your point on the sympathy but if one my buddies died over overseas I would always share sympathy with their mothers.

No disagreement here, as I said to start off.
With regards to Sheehan, I think she says some ridiculous things that she shouldn't, that allows commentators like O'Reilly to pay too much attention to. But overall, I think her heart is in the right direction, and we need more people who are just appalled at war in general.

As one individual pointed out, it will be interesting to see if this will hurt Letterman insomuch that conservatives might not watch his show. Dave's always kind of couched his political views, making sure that he takes swipes at both parties, it's like he's come out of the closet now...and let me just say to my lefty friends, you can find better political heros than Cindy Sheehan.
As far as the video, I think it's O'Reilly who comes out better. Letterman kind of lost it, his whole argument boils down to "you're an idiot!", there wasn't much substance behind his vitriol...and then he admits he never watches O'Reilly, you have to wonder what he bases his "60% crap" comment on.

So essentially, Letterman approached the interview the same way O'Reilly approaches any debate on HIS show?

Until the last few years I had been watching Letterman virtually all my life, and I've always liked Dave That said, he comes off looking like a moron in this interview, perhaps worse.

It is first of all doubtful that this would happen. Even if it did, I doubt he cares. People who might stop watching the show in response to a mildly provocative interview aren't worth giving time of day.

If you think O'Reilly comes off better in this, I don't think we watched the same video. It seems to me that the need to "come off better" is a strictly Fox News thing. Quite in line with their entire approach to "news". Letterman is interested in entertainment, not one-upping his guests. If he manages to do that as well, then it is a bonus.

Seems like great tv.
Have Jon Stewart and O'Reilly ever appeared on the same show?
Yes and Jon was far too respectful of him.

You have a point there...but it always helps an argument when there's something substantive behind it.
Dave tries to introduce a point of substance by mentioning Sheehan, but his logic there is beyond flawed. Essentially what he saying is "you should believe Cindy Sheehan because her son died in Iraq".
