I'm not that impressed. We'll see if one house of Congress is enough to do anything more than stop government in its tracks for 2 years.

I thought the Senate was still too close to call. Is it decided now?
No. But I'm assuming that in the two close races, the Republicans will fight like hell and the Democrats will go masturbate in the bathroom.

If this had been a sweep, then maybe. But this and 2008 are probably the last elections the Dems will win easily... and that's if they do NOT nominate Barack Obama.

What makes you say that? The Bush/Iraq War effect?

we needed 15 seats, and got 28. sounds kinda sweep-y to me.

I don't want to hear "decisive," "mandate," or "sweep" for anything less than this:
I'm glad to hear the Dems did well. I'm not going to start dancing with joy just yet.

Pretty much. If the Dems had the benefit of the worst president in recent history combined with a losing war effort and an opposing party that has used up it's 9/11 credibility and this is the best they can do, then how are they going to do better once Bush isn't as big a factor?
They also are now responsible for the House. Should things get tied up in political BS, they can't blame the republican majority anymore. I also see immigration and entitlements becoming bigger issues in the next cycle. Bush's retarded immigration plan will be gone and the repub's can play the Mexican-invasion card without breaking the party line. I also forsee an increase in youth crime as job oppurtunities for young people are taken by seniors or automated out of existence. Traditionally Dem's are viewed as soft on crime and the Repub's can play on this.

What was the average margin victory? If it's like 5%, it's a win, but it's hardly "sweep-y".

With all due disdain for the completely UN-humble baker, in the gerrymandered political landscape we inhabit, a 28 seat swing is nearly as good as possible, and the counting's not done yet. It could still be as much as 35-40 by the time all is said and done.
This was a near sweep by any reasonable measure. Ford loses in Tennessee, but nearly every other vulnerable seat broke left.

you're the one using the term "sweep". i'm happy with the "win", thanks.
you want blueberry or rhubabrb?
Yes, but your arrogance with this "humble pie" shit is sweep-level. One only serves humble pie when one hands one's opponents' asses to them.

The magic of terrorism. Irrational fear tends to favor wonderful presidents like Bush.
But what if the war effort takes a turn for the better?
It will be the Dems luck that another terrorist attack will happen while they control the house (and possibly the senate). Then all the repubs can stand up and scare their way back into control.

j/k... I don't have any good Republican buddies.
you're acting like a stereotypically portrayed conservative Republican with these kinds of statements, babe.
Maybe you need to be eating some of that pie you're so gleefully baking right now...
this kind of attitude does nothing but continue to keep the country polarized and there's really not that many issues that most of us disagree on- it's been the hard assed idiots on either side of the two party system who have gone out of their way over the years to make small differences in degrees of argument into giant abysses who are the truly evil ones in the country- for they put their own pride as well as their own determination to make the 'other guys' eat crow that will keep the country ignorant. When you polarize a nation (either in practice or in rhetoric) you destroy the foundation of strength that (at one time) made our country great, and a model to the rest of the world of how to behave with grace and dignity and modesty without sacrificing our values.
