Not too surprising. Presidents tend to get it on election years.

Can't think of anyone else at the moment. Someone will probably help me out, though.

What do you think? I see the editors at Time put a lot of hard thought into that one.

The magazine's editors tapped Bush "for sharpening the debate until the choices bled, for reframing reality to match his design, for gambling his fortunes — and ours — on his faith in the power of leadership."

Reframing reality to match his design. That's a big fuck you, Mr. Bush!

A lazy choice. Disappointing, really. Saddam should've been the selection last year. OBL for 2001. Looks like they're afraid to be controversial.

I could care less who Time Mag thinks is man of the year. But I have a question for people.. Does anyone think Bush won the election because he did such a great job, or did he win for countless other reasons (fear of national security, his democratic competitor, conservatives support of things like gay marriage, etc)?

I personally believe that the reasons I listed, coupled with a few others, were actually the cause for the victory that Bush eeked out. I just have a hard time seeing anything Bush did to really deserve the presidency and win over voters; he seemed pretty weak, much like Kerry, to me. Would others disagree? Should he be complimented for running a strong campaign?

I don't think so. It always seemed to me that the options were Bush or That Other Guy.

I would say he's the most influential man of 2004, no doubt about it. Before W, most people thought war was a bad thing. People didn't used to feel they needed to sue because they heard the F-word. Before W, nobody believed that Federal laws should be dictated by the Christian bible. The idea of a large national deficit used to be scary as hell. Conservatives used to believe in a smaller Federal government. Before W, Republican wasn't a dirty word. Yes, I think he deserves special recognition for all he has accomplished.

I am sorry, but I was under the impression that most people still believe war to be a "bad thing", I certainly do. Even in its noblest form warfare is far from a benign endeavor, and to label it such is to reduce the sacrifices of those who have suffered.

Yeah, I was being overly bitter and sarcastic. Don't take offense, it's just some drunken ramblings. :)
