I think we should push for decrim first, like the law changes brought about in Colorado. Outright legalization is not only much more difficult, it would also cause a mess of problems if we tried to put it in immediately. Better to soften up the country and then see what can be done from there.

Full, nation-wide legalization within a year. Suspend all sentences of convicted marijuana users, toss-out misdemeanors, and re-classify people convicted of marijuana sale during prohibition to a lesser offense. Release anyone in US jails who has been convicted of any marijuana offenses.
