Who is there to qualify these peoples' theories?
In other words...if this small handful of scientists are the leaders/promoters of a so-called "Theory of Everything"...and they are the only ones who "understand" what they're talking about because they're so "smart"...who is there to prove them wrong?
Maybe these guys have everyone fooled into thinking they know what they're talking about, but in reality they're just pulling complicated theories out of their ass that people are awed by simply because they're talking over our heads.

Because that's not the way the scientific community works. They are searching for the truth of things, not to be "right" The scientific community holds everything up to incredible scrutiny and everything is challenged, tested, and re-thought. If something doesn't hold up, then it's ultimately thrown out. Even Hawking dismissed his long-held theory about black holes and information loss because studies to the contrary proved otherwise. This isn't the church.
Well, i rather live in the good Dr.'s reality than to dwell in the land of Desperate Housewives.
