Look, I don't know much about this man, and maybe he's done shit that should preclude him from this job, but some of the statements by these advocacy groups are just plain ludicrous:

Quote:
A consumer advocacy group said it opposed the nomination and argued that a medical doctor or trained pharmacist was needed to address the agency's problems.

Quote:
Consumer watchdog Sidney Wolfe, director of Public Citizen's Health Research Group, said he opposed Crawford's nomination because "in the wake of so many disasters having to do with drugs and drug safety, you need someone who is either a physician or a pharmacist," and not a veterinarian.

Do these people have any idea what they are talking about? A veterinarian receives as much training in medical drugs as any MD. Plus, this man has a doctorate in pharmacology which certainly can't be said for the vast majority of MDs. With the focus on drug residues and antibiotic resistance that is hammered into veterinary training, a veterinarian is more than qualified for this position. I've seen MDs giving out unnecessary drugs as often if not more than vets at this point. If anything, a new point of view is highly needed in the medical community. It's time to stop shitting on veterinarians as lesser doctors. /end rant

Well, he may fuck it up miserably, but it won't be because of his education. :D
