I have a question. Let's say, hypothetically, we prove life after death. How will it change the world? Would it be for the good or bad?

That's a good question. I'd say it deserves it's own thread.

People would probably live like bigger assholes knowing they have somewhere else to go

yeah. so my gut instinct is that this would be a bad thing.

how would this be 'proven'? what evidence would be good enough to make you believe?

I think that assumes several things:

1) The the afterlife is BETTER than this life,

2) That one's actions in this life have no effect on one's lot in the afterlife,

3) That it would change the behavior of people who already believe there is an afterlife.

I think all of the following...

(The Bad)
1.) People would be committing suicide more often
2.) Bigger assholes

(The Good)
1.) Give people hope
2.) People's good deeds and morals would improve. And if you want to question what morals are "truth" and what not, fine, but I'm just sticking to what I know to be a decent human being

The hypothetical is that it is proven. We could spend all day arguing about whether or not that is even possible. That's not the question.

What if it were proven that the Aztecs were completely correct in their beliefs?

Their gods, their rituals, their afterlife.

I'd continue on as usual. I mean life is pretty damn sweet already. So finding out that there is an after life would be like getting a 100% on a test and then receiving 10 bonus points due to a mistake the professor made when he/she was preparing the test.

What kind of afterlife?

If it was a Judeo-Christian fate that's as streamlined as Bin Laden or Fred Phelps, it would be the worst possible situation for humanity (unless there's a god up there we missed that will just plain eternally damn us ALL). I've always said that if Christianity were true this would be one of the worst possible worlds - although many who deserve Hell would be there, many many more who don't would be there as well, and many in Heaven who didn't deserve it would be there. And don't give me the "nobody deserves Heaven except through God's grace" bullshit, because it's a horseload given by modern Christianity to eschew the problem I mentioned. I'd honestly rather face annhilation than have Chirstianity, Islam, or Judaism be true, because that God is the worst thing ever created by man in the entirety of mankind's history.

If there were reincarnation, eh ... I'd still wonder whether even the chain of reincarnation were eternal.

If there's a happy land like that Robin Williams movie I suppose I'd get bored after a bit, unless I became a purely fourth-dimensional being and didn't have to worry about time or something.
