Husband is charged in the killing of student Sean Powell.

Knoxville, Tenn. — In a tragic twist to a familiar story, a teenager who had sex with his married 30-year-old teacher was fatally shot outside the woman's home, and authorities have charged the woman's husband.
"You see all this stuff with teachers involved with their students. It just comes up time after time on the national news," said Norman McLean, father of suspect Eric McLean. "Well, this is the first time where one has actually died over it."
Pet Idol Contest McClean's wife, Erin, had completed half of a one-year teaching internship at West High School, where she met the 18-year-old Sean Powell last fall.
Powell's mother, who gave him up for adoption a dozen years ago but re-established contact in 2005, said her son acknowledged having an affair with a teacher.
"He wouldn't let me answer my cell phone," Debra Flynn recalled. "I said, 'Why?' He said, 'Well, Mom, I'm going out with this girl.' I said, 'So what?' He said, 'She is a counselor at school.' I said, 'Oh, my God, Sean."'
Flynn, whose son sometimes stayed at her home in Nashville, said she later found text messages on her phone. "Come home. Baby, I love you. You are beautiful," they said. She believes Erin McLean preyed on her son.
Powell "was a great kid, full of life," Flynn said. He had taught himself to play guitar and just received his driver's license. His adoptive parents, Scarlett and Jack Powell, had just bought him a car.
But he left school on Nov. 20 and did not return. School officials refuse to explain, citing privacy laws. Flynn said her son had a substance-abuse problem and went to rehab for less than a month.
Norman McLean described his son, one of his eight children, as "an excellent person" who was not violent, but he acknowledged that his son "had a lot of burden on him for months now," referring to his wife's affair.
Norman McLean said his son put his own academic career on hold to support his family while his wife of 11 years pursued a graduate teaching degree from the University of Tennessee. He has worked as a pizza deliveryman while taking classes at the university.
On the evening of March 10, McLean called police to say an intruder was at the couple's home. About seven minutes later, Erin McLean called back to say her husband had just shot Powell outside in the boy's car.
Eric McLean fled in his car, which was later found at the high school. McLean was arrested Sunday, walking along railroad tracks about 6 miles away, still carrying the suspected murder weapon, a shotgun.
Sean Powell was buried Thursday after a funeral attended by more than 150 friends and former classmates.

HILLSBORO — A 21-year-old substitute teacher from the Dunklin School District was charged Friday with having sex with a 14-year-old male student, whom she knew for years as a friend of her brother.
The Jefferson County prosecuting attorney charged Teresa Engelbach of Pevely with three counts of statutory rape and one count of statutory sodomy following an investigation by the Jefferson County sheriff's office.
According to authorities, the investigation began Tuesday after the eighth-grade student reported the incidents to a teacher at Senn-Thomas Middle School in Herculaneum. The teacher then told school administrators, who called police.
The incidents occurred between Feb. 1 and March 13 in several different areas of the county and did not involve any other students, police said.
Engelbach currently is being treated for an unknown illness at an area hospital, but she is expected to turn herself in when she is released from the hospital, said Sheriff Oliver "Glenn" Boyer.
The student remains in school, and his family is cooperating with the investigation, he said.
"The most important thing is to know where your kids are at and know who they are with," Boyer said. "And if they say they're going to the park, don't be afraid to go to the park and check."
The district did not have classes on Friday, so a letter regarding the incident and the charges will be sent home with students Monday, said Stan Stratton, the district's assistant superintendent.
"We're just going to do the best we can to support the student and work as a district to get through this situation," he said.
Engelbach earned a substitute teaching certificate from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, which requires a fingerprint background check through the Missouri Highway Patrol and FBI. All of those checks came back clear, Stratton said.
Citing privacy concerns, Stratton would not confirm whether Engelbach's brother is a student at the same school as the eighth-grade boy.
He said Engelbach taught at all three of the schools in the 1,350-student district, which also include Pevely Elementary and Herculaneum High School. She began working for the district in September.
Engelbach attended De Soto Junior High School and qualified for the honor roll there. She went on to play basketball at Herculaneum High School, where she graduated in 2004.
She lived with her father, according to the message on her answering machine at her home.
Shortly after charges against Engelbach were announced, a relative of hers said, "I feel more sorry for her father than anyone else."

I think the most difficult part of this will be the counselor's job in convincing the kid who was banging this teacher that he was the "victim" in all of this.
Or if they need to put the kid on the stand....the prosecutor will have to remind him not to smile, laugh, or sound like he's gloating, and when asked if he had sexual relations with the defendant not to say, "Yeah, I roll like that."

Emily Willis, 28, made her first court appearance on Monday. She was charged with sexual assault of a child and released on a $10,000 bond. Harris County deputies found the eighth-grade math teacher with a 14-year-old male student in the back seat of a car just before 2 a.m. Saturday morning, police said. Authorities said Willis' blouse and bra were off, and the boy was wearing only boxer shorts. School officials have not disclosed whether the boy was one of Willis' students. However, he was a student at McDonald Junior High School, where Willis worked. Investigators said Willis confessed to having sex with the boy.

Repeat offender given probation for sex with deer Associated Press Last update: March 21, 2007 – 11:10 PM
SUPERIOR, WIS. - A 20-year-old Superior man received probation after he was convicted of having sexual contact with a dead deer. The sentence also requires Bryan James Hathaway to be evaluated as a sex offender and treated at the Institute for Psychological and Sexual Health in Duluth. Hathaway's probation will be served at the same time as a nine-month jail sentence he received in February for violating his extended supervision.
He was found guilty in April 2005 of felony mistreatment of an animal after he killed a horse with the intention of having sex with it. He was sentenced to 18 months in jail and two years of extended supervision on that charge, as well as six years of probation for taking and driving a vehicle without the owner's consent.
Hathaway pleaded no contest earlier this month to misdemeanor mistreatment of an animal for the incident involving the deer.
"The type of behavior is disturbing," Douglas County Judge Michael Lucci said. "It's disturbing to the public. It's disturbing to the court."
