Ok the shooting yesterday and the sexoffender thread got me thinking. Where did the world go wrong? I remember growing up and being told respect your elders and do as your told. Now we say don't talk to strangers. I remember sticks and stones may break your bones but names will never hurt me, now kids are crying if you call them a name. I remember getting up in the morning during the summer and being gone all day with my cousins. Never once having to check in with my grandma or an adult. Now it seems you can't even let your kid alone in your yard. I am sure some of this crap existed in the 70's and 80's but what is it now that is bringing it out more? I am sure this has been discussed more then enough but I dont see this crap happening all over the world at the frequency it is here. I just dont get people anymore.

I agree to a certain extent that the world has always been fucked but its getting worse I feel. Maybe its the area I am in, but I dont remember this many obese people before and the high school kids I am around are such babies. Anytime you tell them to do something they complain its to hard, they cant do it. I look at the athletic teams and they are a joke. The kids have no conditioning and no inner drive to do anything. I was watching spring practice for football yesterday while I was coaching track and only 3 kids could run a lap. They have been conditioning for a month and they can't run a lap. I asked some of them about it and they are like its to far, its to hard. Like I said maybe its the area I am in, but damn people today are turning into lil bitches.

I completely agree with this.
Humans are so self destructive its not even funny. We want to be the richest, most powerful people on the planet. We smoking ourselves to death, eat to death, create devices to kill. There is no heart found in mankind. It's sad when we can't enjoy life as is, because we worry too much about survival. I try to be as optimistic as possible but every waking minute I'm reminded one way or another of how sick and abominable humankind is.

i am starting to think this way and i dont want to think this way.
Bill maher was discussing this last night. if the world were told that all they would have to do to stop global warming is to put down their tv remotes and ge off the couch to change the channel, they wouldnt. they'd say "fuck you".
I sometimes wonder if the people have the will to change the way we ar eliving. maybe, ,maybe not. thats not really the issue...the issue is figuring out an answer to a question that noone agrees on.
i think it's always been there. but with about 60 years ago it got exposed to a wider audience due to television. now with the internet, every little excerpt of crappy news can be tracked down within minutes of the event taking place. i posted this somewhere else earlier today;
as an optimist, i'd say lets take care of our education worldwide and see what happens, as a pessimist i'd say stop having children so the reset button on evolution can be pressed in about 120 years. I'm quite the pessimist by nature.

A lot of humans live beyond their means. I just finished reading an article about housing in the Bay Area of California and how home loans are defaulting at record highs. I was talking to my wife this weekend and she has a friend that is $75,000 in debt. Thats credit card debt. Not car loans or a house loan. How the hell are you ever going to pay that off?

either an insurance scam or suing (insert restaurant name here) for making a burger with a hair in it, or a coffee that's too hot.

yeah i've never understood the whole credit system here in the US. Here it's the more you owe, but pay off on time, the better your chances are of getting approved for a car or house. In Holland they check your history as well. BUT, the difference is that they check the opposite, If you've never applied for a loan before, and you make a decent living, you can get a very nice mortgage out of it. It's all about trust. In the US you can't trust people anymore. you have to pay for gas before you pump it for fucks sake.

mainly because of kids getting exposed to a lot of shit. I'm not for censorship at all, but when i visit my 5 year old nephew shooting up gangsters in some videogame i question my own beliefs at times. Of course, that's also a parenting issue.

I consider myself to be someone who tries to do their best to help the environment, animals, those less fortunate than me, etc. It sounds cliche, but I do try to make the world better, or at the least, try to make less of an detrimental impact. I think about how much thinking, self-reflection, and sacrifice is needed in order to come to this point - then I think about how many people just don't give a fuck about anything other than paris hilton and entertainment news. What the hell is it going to take?

I have had banks offer me home loans but I look at the terms. I would be paying over $3,000 a month for the next 40 years of my life. How can I live when I only make about $5000 a month with my wife. Credit is the devil. It took me 10 years to pay off all the crap I bought when I was in college. Thats a lot of wasted money in interest.
