I was thinking earlier about this, and want to present this to the N&D Board; We're all aware of the continuous questioning and indictment of nearly every action made by the Bush Administration over the past 7 yrs and I think most of us would agree that it is justifiable and deserved. My challenge to any of you, and I know I'm probably posing this question to a group that is thin on people who can supply me with answers, is can anyone point to any one tangible positive change or advancement that Bush and company have produced in their 7 yrs in power?

The conversation most overwhelmingly being held across our nation is that W is a complete wash out, and that our best hope is to right the ship after he and his cronies vacate the White House. My personal opinion is that he is the worst president of at least the last 100 yrs if not of all time, and that his continuing wrecklessness and the U.S. citizens' collective inability or indifference to demanding a change or even revolt could well be a wound to our democracy that we may never recover from, but I am honestly curious to see if it is possible to have a conversation about what, if anything Bush has done well or brought to the table. Anyone care to offer me some food for thought?

I have a feeling this thread will die a quick death, but I thought I would throw it out there anyway.....

Cut taxes.
His best accomplishment is what he did not do. He did not sign the Kyoto Accord. It's not an environmental accord but it's a trade agreement. An agreement that punishes greenhouse gas producing countries rather than greenhouse gas consuming countries. It let Europe almost completely off the hook for contributing to the solution while not impacting their lifestyle or economy.
Roberts to Supreme Court.
Brought to light in a very real way what a uselessly bogged down, ineffective and waste of time and money the UN is.

I believe this would fall under the unmitigated disaster category. The others are more open to dispute.

I only put it there for fun. I sometimes follow that Justice thread and find the moaning funny. Roberts was put in by the Republican party, of course he's going to be conservative. As head of the SC all I care about is he a good admininstrator. I don't expect his rulings to be any better than any others.

I've yet to see too many people give back their tax cut or give it all to charity. Actions speak louder than words, the people like the tax cut.
I don't see how anyone can see not signing the Kyoto Accord as anything but a great move. Not signing a trade deal where you get shafted is a smart move regardless of the reasoning. Not doing anything on the environment however was a poor move.

People like hard candy too, but there's little nutritional value in it.

There was as website, which obviously no longer exists, with a big whopping list of charities with a mission in opposition to Bush's agenda. They took pledges from people willing to give their $300 cut directly to a charity. I don't know how many people pledged, or how many gave the money that they pledged, but it was tens of thousands of dollars.

was there some kind of change in tax laws or increase in taxes after they sent out those tax "refunds" ?- I don't really remember anymore but I'd like to know if something changed after that with the way people are expected to pay taxes.

Honestly, this is the only positive I can think of, but it's completely nullified by the deficit spending he's undertaken.

I'd say in general it's hard to point out what Clinton did well other than balance and then run a surplus budget. In the end he did nothing for health care or the environment. Please don't point to the economy, no President has any control over it.

I think most Presidents are judged by their mistakes. If Bush hadn't entered the Iraq war people would gladly overlook his other less dubious achievements.

I think a better question to ask is list the biggest 5 mistakes of Bush.
