WTF? Are they trying to parody Stephen Colbert or something?

I'm not sure why they didn't run through the show with an actual laughing audience, but I could probably fire off a list of reasons. The first being that, as we all know, there aren't many funny Republicans.

WTF? Is the Huffington Post trying to parody punkdavid or something?

Yeah, it's not funny. And the laughs are indeed fake.

And the title is a variation of This Hour Has 22 Minutes.

Yes, it is.

Actually, it seems more like a parody of Saturday Night Live's "Weekend Update" skit, along with other skits added to it. Remember one of SNL's opening where Al Gore did a monologue as the President? For the first show of The 1/2 Hour News Hour, they do something very similiar, but with Rush Limbaugh as the President. I won't mention who played the part of Vice President, so as not to ruin the surprise. The show is on at 10pm EST on Sunday, following Hannity's America.

Is it really fair to judge a show based on a two-minute clip?

Anyone could cherry-pick something from The Colbert Report and make it look like a bad show. For me, Colbert's show has it's ups and downs (more to the latter)....for instance, I could you tube a clip of his Tak Jansen cartoon and have people who have never seen the show think it to be juvenile and not worth the time. Then again I could generate a lot of interest by you tubing one of his "better know a district" skits, which are very good.

Fox News Channel bombs with comedy show
Posted on Feb 14, 2007 11:01:54 AM

Jon Stewart knows how to do slashing comical commentary. He weighs in on what's happening, such as the media's bizarre coverage of Anna Nicole Smith's death.

David Letterman knows how to do slashing comical commentary. He takes President Bush's awkward speeches and contrasts them with the lasting words of John F. Kennedy and Franklin Roosevelt.

Fox News Channel does not know how to do slashing comical commentary. The channel debuts "The 1/2 Hour News Hour" at 10 p.m. Sunday and repeats it at 10 p.m. Feb. 25. This show was meant to be a conservative version of "The Daily Show." It is a botch.

"The 1/2 Hour News Hour" does not comment on what is happening; it simply takes swipes at people. These people include Howard Dean, Hillary Clinton, Dennis Kucinich, Barack Obama and Ed Begley Jr. Other joke topics are the ACLU, Time magazine, children's books and global warming.

Laughter, of an awfully canned variety, greets all the gags. Nothing happening on screen justifies these outbursts.

Hey, I'm all for a good dig at the high and the mighty. But these satirists fall short of hitting their targets with wit, timeliness or punch.

Which raises the point: What is a comedy show doing on a news channel?

"The 1/2 Hour News Hour" was developed by Joel Surnow, who has given the world many minutes of entertainment through "24." On the basis of the premiere, Surnow should stick to political thrillers.

At the top, Rush Limbaugh puts in a cameo as the U.S. president (the year is 2009); Ann Coulter drops in as his vice president. Then they disappear, a smart move.

Fox News Channel will offer a second episode at 10 p.m. March 4. If we're lucky, we'll never hear of this dreadful show again.

Based only on the clip, this show could potentially lap Full House as the worst show I've ever seen.

furthermore, Fox has no business putting this on their news channel! Put it on let me think...some other FOX channel! It's shameful that these dull conservative jokers are an answer from Fox news to COMEDY CENTRAL. This is one reason why I don't watch cable news anymore. They don't take it seriously.

Besides that the satire was terrible and completely lacked any sense of wit, those two anchors have possible the most feigned chemistry i've ever seen.

Interesting; sounds essentially like all of the rest of their programming. Maybe they've really just been a comedy channel all along?

Aw shit. This is the promo clip, and the one I really wanted people to see:

When I first saw this, my thought was, "Gee FOX News, this doesn't really help your fair and balanced mission."

To be fair, I didn't really construe from his post that he was backing it--just not writing it off immediately like the rest of us. Also, I do know that he has criticized some aspects of Fox News in general.
