Bush just said, "the American people have to balance their budgets, so should their government." I just choked on either irony or hypocrisy, I'm not sure which.

oh i agree. if this wasn't 'reality' but just entertainment id want him as president forever...he is pure entertainment. the daily show will never be as funny when he is out of office. though the clintons would provide some good material...

he's asking for a lot of money for someone who just said he wants a balanced budget, along with a war or two, all while cutting taxes.

Blah blah blah....I'm against genocide in Sudan.

Really? Wow, what a strong statement to make. That was one of the most awkward lead-ins I've ever seen in a presidential speech. Even the congress was like "Huh?......*applause*"

But now that the Republicans are no longer able to wield their influence to put all their pet projects into play, he's going to put a foot down on pet projects. That'll free up some money.

In a nutshell: no new money, we're in debt, and I need all this money for my shit. So you need to stop spending. I mean, crimminy, how else am I going to afford to give more money to private schools...

Did he mention vouchers in the state of the Union? I thought that was on hold at the Federal level due to unfavorable reaction.

He talked about assistance for private schools because they're disappearing from inner cities (where they have traditionally been unpopular...apparently allowing a free economy to decide doesn't count when it decides against your pet project).

It's the greatest running punchline in politics, that. Never fails to crack me up.
