um... its Jena 6. Its the name of a town. Im normally not one to point out spelling errors, but this one you may want to fix so people know what you're talking about.

I just LOVE how helpful and friendly everyone is when someone is looking for information. Here Theresa, this is the URL I found, and it gives a basic rundown of the situation- sorry I can't give details to you myself, I'm too busy today but a quick search came up with this site:

http://www.colorofchange.org/jena/

It sounds bad, really bad, but I hate jumping into these things without knowing a lot more. I'm googling it.

The first thing that throws me off: how do you NOT get expelled for HANGING NOOSES FROM A TREE on school grounds? What dumbshit administrator thought that was a reasonable prank?

i don't think that's an acceptable answer...they're dumb, from the south, etc.... this is sick and if the state isn't going to address it, maybe the federals should (i know, i know.... )

A charge of aggravated battery requires the use of a "deadly weapon". Walters thus argued that the tennis shoes that Bell was wearing and used to kick Barker were deadly weapons, an argument with which the all-white jury agreed.

would you have preferred they stuck with the 2nd Degree Murder Charge?

and regardless if it was provoked by race.. this is still a "hate" crime if 6 black youths beat up a white teen because he is white... so shouldnt they have gotten stiffer penelaties because of hate crime legislation?
