BRASILIA, Brazil, March 8 (UPI) -- Brazil and Spain are playing ping-pong with tourists from the two countries, reportedly sending them back upon arrival.

The latest incident occurred Friday when Brazilian immigration officials turned back eight Spanish tourists who arrived from Madrid to Salvador in Brazil's northeastern state of Bahia, Mercopress reported Saturday. Officially, Brazilian police said the tourists were stopped because of irregularities in their travel documents and for failing to reveal all the money they had in their possession.

However, the incident came a day after Brazilian officials told Spain of their concern about "reciprocity" since a high number of Brazilians have been rejected at Madrid's Barajas airport, Mercopress said.

Recently, Brazilian officials said, 30 Brazilians were not allowed into Spain. Brazilian media have reported that last month Spain turned back 452 Brazilians at the Madrid airport.

do you know- or do they mention anywhere why the officials in Spain have been turning away so many people from Brazil?

officially they say that theyre just following the laws

supposed the brazilians didnt have the money that the law requires (35 euros per day, something like that), or credit cards

i believe that it may be true for some cases, but many people showed the money, credit cards, hotel registration(??not sure about this word) and were sent back

its pure racism, some of the spanish officials said "go back to your shitty country" according to the victims

I don't know very much about either country, but am I right to think this kind of problem between Spain and Brazil has been going on for a long time?

and I know a lot of brazilians here in MA- they usually think it's 'so cute' when I try to speak spanish to them. One friend of mine told me that Spanish is like a baby's language. heh.
(my Spanish is lousy, and I only know a few words in Portuguese)

well brazil always had a good relation with Spain
obvious that there will always be some people not allowed to enter the country, but theyre going too far this time, and i dont think its healthy to offend our contry

Average european girl >>> average brazilian girl

But its lame we are doing the same, stupid revengeful feeling. Tourism here is very, very weak, many countries that aremuch smaller and "less famous" receive much more tourists.

BUT, we dont have a big voice against Spain, we are a 3rd world country

if they werent allowing americans or french, it would be a different situation
