I don't believe in it. Do you really think our thoughts and feelings, such as love, guilt, hatred, agony etc...came from evolution? I just don't believe science can explain the human condition.

Our intelligence came from evolution... survival of the fittest, those better able to survive are favoured, those alleles are more likely to remain in the gene pool and survive. Favourable mutations survive. Intelligent organisms obviously have a better chance of survival. It is our intelligence that both enables us to describe and understand evolution as well as to question it.

I don't "believe" in evolution per se, but it beats the hell out of any theories that I have seen put forth, and it is backed empirical evidence. I cant speak for you, but I am pretty big on reason and logic (even if fail to use it in my day to day life). As far as emotions go, many animals feel love, hate, agony, etc. The problem with evolution at the moment is that it is almost universally accepted by the scientific community as fact. To most of you this might not seem like a big deal, but when a theory considers itself substantiated without being completely valid it frustrates me. This is because researchers will usually interpret their findings through the framework of "natural selection" instead of in relation to. What if this isn't accurate? It's bad science. To assume that Darwin was absolutely correct when he first proposed his theory is a bit absurd and I think that could stand in the way of scientific breakthroughs.

I'll gladly offer one.

Darwin was not assumed to be correct when the theory was first proposed. I don't think you'll find any scientific research which is accepted without question. That's what the peer-review system is for.

I cant apologize from "hell" to "heaven" if that is where you are going with this one.

Its "apology". In addition I have concluded that you are posing as a moron to make this board more liberal, success...

I also believe that if you believe in ghosts, you believe in the afterlife. And there is so many stories in my family. Some stories in my opinion you just can't deny.

I deny your ghosts.

Let get this straight, anything that cannot be explained has some metaphysical relationship?

I look at it this way:

I die, and there is no afterlife- I did not waste any of my time on religion, instead I used that time to do things that made this place a slightly better realm to live in. I created a legacy. Niiiiice.

I die, and I go to some kind of hell- This higher being appreciates being worshipped more than having his/her subjects do good. Therefore this higher being sucks, and is not worthy of being worshipped.

I die, and I go to some kind of heaven- a nice way to kick back and look back on the nice things that have happened.

I can't lose.

I thought that made perfect sense at first, but not if you look at it this way...

What do you think of psychology, then? That's basically the study of the human condition.

This has always very slightly irked me as well, even though I consider evolution a very logical theory. The reason for this is my mathematical mind is used to "true, false, and conjecture". From what I can ascertain from the more scientifically inclined here, the scientific thought on a theory is defined a bit differently. I won't even try to describe it, because I'll only badly butcher it, and it's been posted upon before somewhere else.

This is tsunami's cue... ;)

I don't fucking care if you deny my ghosts. I know the stories, the ghosts are my relatives. I don't expect you to know shit about anything.

Calm down a tad.

How did we get from evolution to ghosts? Don't we already have a thread on the latter?

There's nothing wrong with believing in ghosts or whatever you so choose, but somebody's testimony will never be considered as any form of evidence to prove or disprove a theory.
