Yeah no kidding.

So you get sick and miss a few days of work. Big fucking deal. If you're not very young or very old, odds are pretty good you're not going to die from the flu. People are really stupid.

I'm worried...about my mother mostly. She is a department head in a nursing home, and you know how the flu runs through a facility like that. And she gets pnemonia every year...she can get the pneumo-vax, but she really needs the flu shot too.

But I am also worried because I work with disabled people who REALLY need flu shots every year, and every year I lose one or two of my clients (who are like friends to me) to the flu, even with the flu shot.

My clients are in deep shit because they have SIGNIFICANT respiratory issues and they are the most overlooked segment of the population. The funding for their services is inadequate, which means we have overworked staff who may not have the time to secure a flu shot in time for my friends.

I am VERY worried. I was worried before the press made a big deal of it and I think we will sees a significant amount of deaths in the elderly and the disabled.

Edit: I don't worry about myself at all. I am as healthy as a regalian ox.

I still don't quite understand what the "big deal" is about flu shots.... I've never had one and never intend on having one, and I've never had any serious enough issue to make me think one was ever necessary.

What is the big deal with people who feel the insaciable need for flu shots each year (as well as allergy shots)? Don't they only protect against "last years known aliment"? It's last years flu in a tiny dose so that your ammue system can create internally what it needs in order to battle it, right? If you "survived" last years flu, isn't it safe to say that you have the amunities to get through any reoccurance?

I don't get it.

Aren't you glad Canada still seems to be socialist and dosen't mind SHARING the wealth that is the flu shot. Too bad we aren't capitalist pigs and charge you rich Americans about $500 bucks a shot. Just to show you how greedy another country can be when it comes to people fearing death. Take it with a grain of salt, yet absorb the whole scene.

Now shut your presidents yap and the crap he spews about our drugs not being safe. What a tool!!! Welcome to Canada where we don't mind helping you with our outdated drugs. My god. Does the man not realise we have been sharing the same things for most of the time North America has been North America on a map.

It's the lack of capitalism the caused the problem. My understanding is this whole problem came about b/c the Gov't doesn't allow the market to set the price for the shots. Drug companies don't want to get involved with the manufacturing of these shots b/c theres no money it. Which of course leads to shortages.

My house has never caught on fire *knocks on wood* but that doesn't mean I'm going throw away all my smoke detectors.

Which is kind of funny as when I viewed the debates from a different land. Everytime a domestic problem came up, somehow it got side tracked to be about Iraq. Strange observation. And you laugh at our medical ways. If what you say is true. It is a sad day down there.

I can't make a profit so fuck the people. And I thought that was only your foreign policies. ha ha ha

AHHH WAR OF THE WORLDS AHH!

I think this is a case of the media creating a huge, massive scare into the public.
Yes, influenza is a potentially lethal sickness, but the news outlets are acting as if death is imminent if you don't get this shot.

some ppl need the flus hot, others don't. I don't get flu shots, if i get sick i take some medicine and get better...

this is part diversion from real issues, whipping us into a panic to keep us unfocused, yet again, how can you not see the pattern??

As others said there's no money in these so no motivation in our capitlist system. Profit over people.

Many need the shot, more don't. I think it's funny they are trying to buy some from canada when part of Dubya's medicare thing was you aren't allowed to purchase drugs from canada (which is far cheaper)

Overall to the average american this has as much relevance as the stories of shark attacks, sacrin, eggs, killer bees....

does anyone even remember the word issues? and i'm talking R E A L issues, with R E A L answers and ideas. Not this 'hey, look over there!!!

Can anyone honestly tell me honest answers given on the environment? on alternative fuel sources? NAFTA? the world bank? the IMF? no, but we can sure remember the zingers, eh? ya know when the ballons drop when the president wins? those are really balls to balance on yoru noses like the trained seals you are. We're never given honest answers, ever, and then you act dumbfounded to find you've been mislead or the awful deeds of the other party. CHrist this isn't politics it's professional wrestling.

we accept them making all these promises at campaign time and rationalize why they didn't follow through. So now, again like in 2000 Bush is ever so concerned with health care. Nevermind while Governor his state ranked 49th for uninsured women, 50th for uninsured children. See, they don't give a fuck about you. They make pretty speeches and then give you a bunch of distractions to take our mind off of everything...

this is not a blanket statement, it is not directed at everyone or anyone in particular.

c-

I think our vaccines are made from multiple flu strains that are prevalent in the Southern Hemisphere during our spring/summer. But your point is still valid...the pharmaceutical companies are just taking a "best-guess" as to what strains will be prevalent in America/Canada/Europe within 6-9 months.
