In a speech today, McCain referred to Obama's tax plans as Socialism, and then in the same speech turned around and trumpeted his desire to have gov't come in and buy up the home mortgages of those trapped by high interest rates and falling housing values. Uh, hey John? Yeah, how the fuck is gov't buying up mortgages not a form of socialism?

I think he's agreeing with you. That's one thing that's really frustrated me about McCain as well. He just doesn't "get it" on a few things that are really core to conservatives. On the other hand, he's definitely looking better then the other choice despite his shortcomings.

I think socialism will happen whether we like it or not. The question is how far will they go and still convince the American people that they are in the land of the free?

I thought the same thing. You're right on target, imo.

If Obama and the government chooses that particular path, they will not like the results.

You've got a good point there. And I agree with the gist of what's been said above as well. No matter which way we head, I think we're fucked ultimately.
