I just went over to Drudge...The third headline on the page says "Bill Gates pledges 750 million to vaccinate children." Right below that it says "Bush seeks 80 billion more." (For the war in Iraq). It just struck me...this citizen is the one taking care of health care problems, and the president is still fucking off in Iraq, with no real mention of a domestic issue in sight.

Well said. What is wrong with this country that we refuse to take care of our own?

I don't understand how one year the government can say that they don't have enough money to feed all the people who are starving below the poverty line in America, but as soon as a war prospect comes along Bush can throw billions and billions and billions of money at it.

My dad made a comment about all of the celebrities throwing money at Tsunami relief. Not a bad thing in it's own right - but what he brought up: What about all of the families in Florida that are still living in tents from this summer, waiting for Gov checks and assistance that isn't coming?

People here are still starving, still poor. Our families are surviving on "Full time" 28 hour employment at WalMarts because there's nowhere else to work. WalMart can't afford to pay it's workers more than minimum wage, but they can afford to put up a new store every three miles.

Basically, if you had a child who was sick with cancer, you wouldn't donate all of your money to another hospital's cancer ward then tell your child you can't afford to take care of HIM. But that's the kind of thing we do in this country all the time. It's just wrong.
