If you make the tax rate on investments similar to what it is on income many of us would have a lot less money to invest and the economy would suffer.
I've never bought this argument as anything more than wishful thinking from supply siders. It takes two for an economy to tango, and I've never understood why either side of the equation should get an added political boost.

What do you mean by added political boost?

Exactly, he should have said "USPS" not "UPS". He traded the postal union to get in good with the stuff industry. Bad move for any democrat.

Quite a few, it looks like. It's currently #17 on Amazon.

On a side note, I was at the speech Obama gave, before being accosted by Brewer, and he said something that I think people on all sides of the political spectrum should agree with: that crane is huge.

Bailing out the legacy costs of a large labor union so that a company might still employ them hardly qualifies as saving an industry, but whatever.

He absolutely saved the UAW. GM and Chrysler not so much. (It's not like Americans wouldn't keep building cars)

Didn't like the bank bailout so much and I didn't like kicking the legacy costs can down the road further either.

Oh well, hopefully he will put the screws to AIG and Citibank etc in the next term to pay back most of those funds.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, unless it's a religion we don't like, or social issues that we feel supersede your right to freely exercise your religious beliefs. Or something like that.

Did this guy just win the election today with that mortgage plan nonsense?

Of all the faiths, the Catholics deserve this the most. How many federal grants and contracts did they pull down for their hospitals and social work programs? You can't have it both ways, either you are an auxiliary of the state or you're a religious institution. Hopefully they reconsider the structure of their institutions as a result of this.

God I hope. THIS is a sham. It's also straight up wealth redistribution. The vast majority of the money isn't even going to help those that were foreclosed upon. 17/25ths is going to principle reductions. They're performing assessments, your only requirement is to have made your last 6 months worth of payments on time, and you need a minimal credit score of 580! There are approximately 11 million who qualify, but there's enough help what? 3 to 3.5?

It's essentially a lottery to home owners to get a bunch of other people's money.

I think it's great. I mean, I'm looking to get my own mortgage right now so I might as well pay for someone else's too right?

Fuck these people.

They shouldn't be getting government grants in the first place. That's still no excuse to violate first amendment rights.

It is no excuse, but its funny that the Catholics were gaga for Obamacare when they announced it. This was a totally forseeable consequence, if they had bothered to fully think this thing out.

You're very angry, and you're very violent. I know you're still using that avatar as evidence that you "won" against PunkDavid, but you can stop now. Your low self esteem and classic case of conservative victimization complex is not going to be mitigated by whatever perceived intellectual clout you think you have on RM.

LittleWing gonna LittleWing. Ain't nothing nobody can do 'bout it.

BUT, he is correct. This is bill nothing but a piece of paper Obama can point and say "I did something to help those poor, poor people who were swindled by the evil 1% whom I am fighting so hard to make pay their 'fair' share. Now vote for me or the banks win!"

Look at the situation; the bank still hold the financial nuclear weapon of tens of thousands of shadow foreclosures they could bring to the market at any minute. Real Estate loans are still be bundled into securities, by some accounts at an even great rate, and pension funds are still allowed to invest in them. And people are still getting conned by robo-signers and no downpayment ARMs. Here's one write up of the benefits of the plan:

"Hundreds of thousands of borrowers are also expected to receive restitution, averaging $1,500 to $2,000, if they lost homes to foreclosure from 2008 to the end of 2011." -Detriot Free Press

So the bank illegally foreclosed on a home and the now non-homeowner gets $2,000 in compensation? That's not even a slap on the wrist for these criminals. It's just another example of the joke Obama has become. He was elected on a mandate to change how DC operates and he's done nothing but allow it to get worse.

Exactly, so for displacing your family and screwing you out of your rights initially we shall bestow on thee ONE mortage payment. Isn't that wonderful!

Let them eat cake.

It would have benefitted me if they changed the damned laws that allow banks to include nearby forclosures to assess property value.

The 7 forclosures in my neighborhood have nothing to do with the value I've added to my house. I'm not selling it for a third of it's value. If we're going to play that game, lets apply that same logic to property taxes.

I have the avatar because I'm lazy and don't feel like changing it. I didn't have an avatar for years. But thanks for LOLful memories. If I had low self-esteem I wouldn't have graduated towards the top of my class, or joined the Marine Corps, or went to college for engineering, and then gotten an engineering degree, and now out earn my engineering peers.

My victimization complex is a result of - ya know - the government victimizing me and the majority of the populace viewing me as nothing more than a tax serf.
