Moscow Mayor Yury Luzhkov said at an international HIV/AIDS conference Thursday that condoms were not a reliable means of protection against HIV and AIDS.
"Certain manufacturers state that condoms are reliable protection against AIDS, but modern science has proven this is untrue," he said.
Luzhkov, who has been Moscow's mayor since 1992, said he was aware that the authorities will be criticized for their stance, but added that "each particular society has its own views."
amazing. and it's not like these sorts of views don't have influence:
A new study by Harvard researchers estimates that the South African government would have prevented the deaths of 365000 people from AIDS if it had provided anti-retroviral drugs (ARVs) to AIDS patients and widely administered drugs to help prevent pregnant women from infecting their babies.
The Harvard study concluded that the policies grew out of President Thabo Mbeki’s denial of the well-established scientific consensus about the viral cause of Aids and the essential role of anti-retroviral drugs in treating it.

I recently read an article stating that with the new technology available to us in the near future, we will identify 500 000 NEO (near Earth objects AKA asteroids) in the next 10-15 years...so maybe when a few of them make their way to Earth and fuck up a region she will believe!

i've stopped talking to her about anything other than work. she's 46, only eats raw foods (WTF is dandelion tea?), and wears uggs. i pretty much despise her.
I'd believe that kind of character living in Kansas City. There are some oddities round Omaha way, for certain.

Probably doesn't want people to use condoms because their birthrate has been so low. This is the same country that was like giving people refrigerators for having babies.

You know, this is probably true. At the current birthrate, Russia will be a majority Muslim country in the not-too-distant future.

Maybe they're hoping that skinhead violence will help increase muslim emigration rates.
