Oh I'm not at all, just shocked a the way it's being spun the way it is. Which is hugely pro Israeli in some cases. That's all.

I would say this time I've noticed most big media (BBC, CNN, even Al Jazeera) have done their very best to cover this as neutral as positive. And even then they were subjected to shitloads of angry mails/tweets/messages from people from either side to blame them for their bias. Which is a bit funny and is making their job even harder than it is. Not only are people like Anderson Cooper from CNN literally risking their lives in Gaza, hardly able to sleep, they're also being questioned for every word they say. And then people are surprised/shocked they react:

and

Anyway, glad this is over, so we can just continue to turn Gaza into a 3rd world country, hardly let them build the place back up again, continue to build Jewish homes on the West Bank and be surprised Hamas launch a rocket again in 4 years (or whenever the next Israeli elections are? ) after which the whole thing starts again.

P.S. Thanks McP for the Plains-post.

Yeah, Anderson Cooper's twitter insults at idiots have been pretty good during this crisis.

So Israel is continuing to build Jewish settlements in what is now recognised as an independent country by the UN?

Can't be right, so I've missed something.

What have I missed?

If the UN is the final word on international legitimacy, why didn't the Arabs accept the partion in '48 and save everyone a whole heap of trouble? Is the UN more legitimate now than it was then?

You mean when Jordan owned the West Bank and Egypt the Gaza strip and they basically had nothing at all? There's a reason they call it "the day of the catastrophe". Yes, hindsight is a wonderful thing, but coming from where they were, there was no way they would just accept that situation. I'm sure you can see that.

I'm currently planning to do a 2-week trip next year to visit Israel & the West Bank. They'd better keep it quiet a bit now.

So, what arbitrary lines in the sand did the UN recognize as the borders?
