I'm amazed at some of the shit "smart" people think is funny. Stereotypes are funny...but I do think there is a fine line between comedy and prejudice. I got an email today from an old friend who I haven't spoken to in months and haven't seen in years and it said this:

My question is this: Where do we draw the line? Personally, I have always kept stereotypical jokes to my closest friends and with them there is no line. We say some over the top shit and get a good laugh out of it. But we are talking about a few people who all know that it's a joke and really just making fun of stereotypes. Isn't there a big difference between making a joke to your best friends and doing it in a mass email or even on a public forum?
Discuss. Or merge with a thread that already exists. Or do neither.

totally agree. the joke is funny in playing to stereotypes, but if coming from someone you don't know well, can be just as well plain racist.
one shouldn't bother people with mass emailing of jokes anyway.

I don't know. I think cracking jokes about sterotypes tends to discredit them more than people who actually seriously believe them. If it's meant to be funny, so be it.
however, there's a time and place. Sending out random things to everyone on your email/cell phone list, with no regard for how well you know them isn't it.
You know I tell you what, I have racist thoughts, sure, but it stems from different areas, for one politics. A perfect example is this:
I used to classify myself a Republican, but now I'm independent or plainly just don't belong anywhere. In al-Qaida's first response to Obama's victory, al-Zawahri also called the president-elect — along with secretaries of state Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice — "house Negroes."
Speaking in Arabic, al-Zawahri uses the term "abeed al-beit," which literally translates as "house slaves." But al-Qaida supplied English subtitles of his speech that included the translation as "house Negroes."
The message also includes old footage of speeches by Malcolm X in which he explains the term, saying black slaves who worked in their white masters' house were more servile than those who worked in the fields. Malcolm X used the term to criticize black leaders he accused of not standing up to whites.
In Washington, State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said the latest message was just "more despicable comments from a terrorist."
The 11-minute 23-second video features the audio message by al-Zawahri, who appears only in a still image, along with other images, including one of Obama wearing a Jewish skullcap as he meets with Jewish leaders. In his speech, al-Zawahri refers to a Nov. 5 U.S. airstrike attack in Afghanistan, meaning the video was made after that date.
Al-Zawahri said Obama's election has not changed American policies he said are aimed at oppressing Muslims and others.
"America has put on a new face, but its heart full of hate, mind drowning in greed, and spirit which spreads evil, murder, repression and despotism continue to be the same as always," the deputy of al-Qaida chief Osama bin Laden said.
He said Obama's plan to shift troops to Afghanistan is doomed to failure, because Afghans will resist.
"Be aware that the dogs of Afghanistan have found the flesh of your soldiers to be delicious, so send thousands after thousands to them," he said.
Al-Zawahri did not threaten specific attacks, but warned Obama that he was "facing a Jihadi (holy war) awakening and renaissance which is shaking the pillars of the entire Islamic world; and this is the fact which you and your government and country refuse to recognize and pretend not to see."
He said Obama's victory showed Americans acknowledged that President George W. Bush's policies were a failure and that the result was an "admission of defeat in Iraq."
But Obama's professions of support for Israel during the election campaign "confirmed to the Ummah (Islamic world) that you have chosen a stance of hostility to Islam and Muslims," al-Zawahri said.
Malcom X's quote about the Vietcong comes to mind. So much for that.

I am not a racist. Instead, I consider myself an amateur statistician.
I know that I am more likely to have my car stolen from a black man than a white man. I know that if I see a black person on the street they are likely to be less intelligent and less well-educated than I am. I know that a black person is more likely to assault me or draw a gun on me than a white man. I know that a black person is more likely to speak in slang or with improper english than a white person.
I take all of these things into consideration. Just like I take into consideration that I am more likely to die driving down the highway than driving through my neighborhood subdivision. Just like I take into consideration the fact that I am more likely to be struck by lightning when it is raining than when the skies are clear.
A lot of these things apply to other groups of people as well, however. For example, I know Mexicans are more likely to not know english, Jews are more likely to try to screw me out of my money, and women are more likely to melt when someone brings a 2-month old baby into a room. Old people are more likely to drive 15 under the speed limit, kids are more likely to piss their pants, fat people are more likely to have food hidden in their desk.
Different people do different things. Black people aren't immune to this. Unfortunately, as it happens, a lot of the things they are statistically more likely to do happen to be things that I consider thoroughly negative and/or detrimental to society. What follows from this is that, statistically speaking, black people are less likely to be a productive member of society. It isn't necessary to get into the reason that this is the case, it only matters that it is the case.
So that being said, while I will never pretend these statistical imbalances don't exist, I do not let them interfere on a personal level. In other words, the probabilistic function collapses the second I have an interaction with someone. When I engage in a conversation with a black person, the only thing that matters is what they are like as a person.
Nothing like math for exonerating yourself as a racist.

That part of it was more of a joke, actually. I'm allowed to say untrue things about Jews since I am a Jew, sort of.
Ok. I would be interested to hear of a study that proved jews are more likely to screw people out of their money than the general population. I'm pretty sure this doesn't exist. The "cheap jew" thing really pisses me off too. And yes, I'm jewish by birth.

Actually there is plenty of stats showing that the average IQ of the black population is smaller than the average of the white population. Of course its all cultural. I dont remember what specific age, but at a certain age while a black kid would know have 1500 words in his/her lexicon, a white kid would have about 2500.

I have two pieces of anecdotal evidence, actually.
1. My great-grandfather, a jewish lawyer from New York, made tons of money and saved almost all of it. He never went to a doctor in his life except at the veterans hospital since he was a disabled vet, even though he could have afforded the best doctors in the world. I don't really know that much about it, I just hear stories about him being a stingy bastard, an asshole, and a tightwad.
2. My great-uncle, one of the sons of the aforementioned great-grandfather, is a Jewish Jeweler in Chicago. He is rich as fuck, but you would never know it because he doesn't buy anything. He sells high-end fucking jewelry and looks like your average 70-year-old Joe.
You don't get any more of screwing people out of their money than you do from a Lawyer and a Jeweler.
